Looks like Coach Avery has brought in another good group of soccer players. Two foreign JC transfers and two HS players including a HS All American out of Lake Central. The article is on the athletic site and sounds like more recruits will be announced soon. Good job coach, and Go VALPO! www.valpoathletics.com

The talent brought in the last two years is pretty incredible considering the history or lack of for soccer. 2010 could be fun to watch for soccer. Almost everyone back and one of these two new forwards might help the loss of Shively. Anyone know if they are staying at Brown field or moving back to Eastgate for games? Maybe they should sell the Eastgate real estate anyway. From my recollection it would make a better shopping mall than it does an athletic facility.

My last alumni email said the games next fall were to be played at Brown Field and - wait for it - at night under the lights! Lights are supposed to go up this summer. That ought to help recruiting some.

Lights aren't going up until the hospital is torn down as I understand it....has there been a change...that's not supposed to happen until 2011 I thought....anyone know if that has changed.

When is PMH supposed to be torn down, and why can't lights go up before the hospital is gone? I guess I just don't understand that whole issue?

I am told that it was ASSUMED that lights couldn't go up until the hospital moved but when someone finally asked the question they found out they could go up even before. This summer Brown gets lights from what I am hearing. Soccer games at night will be a blast and should really help boost attendance.
Would football ever play at night? Saturday afternoon in the fall feels like football time.

The FAA has approved the lights going in prior to the hospital closing. Because the funding is in place, they will go in this summer. Now, back to soccer signings, this is the coolest announcement of all time! The women have already made a poster for their class and the presentation of the announcement, re: Why Valpo and what the player brings to the team, is just fantastic: www.valpoathletics.com/news/default/147/9567/

Agreed - great job by both m&w soccer staffs for raising the bar in the sport! These coaches do more with less than most of their HL competitors.

If the FAA has relented on the lights, then I'm all for it. Originally they said because of the helicopter pad on top of the hospital, the lights could not go up until the hospital was moved. If they have changed their mind, it has not been announced as yet, but that's a great move. I hope football will play some night games too, it would be something different and might attract more fans....

Good article. Nice to see good players, local or not, give VU some respect as a soccer school. Coach A does a great job recruiting and if you heard him speak you'd see why. He had our alums last year ready to suit up and play for four more years if we could after listening to him at the alumni game.
Let's hope the guys can add to last fall's successful season.
