in the Times this morning it was announced that two really outstanding running backs from Valparaiso High School have signed with other schools. Michael Perkins signed with Jackson State, where his dad was all-conference years ago...and Nick Thompson is going to Drake in our conference. i'm friends with Perkins dad and I know he only had a short conversation with VU during the season, not sure about Thompson...but both are very fast and strong....They would have been great gets for VU....Perkins gets a full ride, I understand that....but not sure why we couldn't have gotten Thompson. This points out one of the problems we've discussed before with local players not choosing VU.

Sometimes local kids just don't want to go to VU. I know I wanted to get out of town. It shouldn't be hard to understand, especially going to Drake.

Doesn't help we don't have a head coach!

There are so many reasons to choose Drake for football over Valpo I can't believe we're even bringing it up. Lack of a head coach doesn't help. Being the worst D1 team in the country and a having a "stadium" worse than most Duneland schools, it's easy to see why they chose to go elsewhere.
Drake has a nice facility, a winning record, and a head coach. Any other questions?

The point is not that they are both going elsewhere, but did VU try to recruit them. There a several 'star' PFL players from our immediate area....we have a few, but there are more playing for other schools. Because of my conversation with the Chesterton player last year who said Drake offered him, and VU hadn't even contacted him....I just wonder if these two were contacted too....All I know is, we need to get some of these guys to comer here somehow...that's what the new coach will HAVE to do quickly

I know for a fact the coaches were recruiting locally, although I do not know the extent of their efforts. The few they invested a lot of time in, ended up going elsewhere, citing their desire to leave the area.

I'm pretty sure Thompson was at least contacted by VU. I'll open up myself to a lot of criticism here, but Perkins is too good of a player. Plus, he probably didn't want to go to a college three blocks (literally) from his house.
