Wow, an 8 a.m. game. Doesn't seem too fair to have them playing that early on a weekday. Oh well.

It's 9AM Eastern Time, so it might feel early to us, but they are used to playing that early from the aspect of summer ball. Games then would commonly start at 8AM. They'll just have to get to bed early on Sunday night, have a light breakfast, and GAME TIME!!

Softball won Game 1- 4-0 over Green Bay! Momentarily, they'll get started with Game 2 against Cleveland St. (the #1 seed). Aaron Leavitt will have a running commentary on the athletics website for the game. Since there is no audio, it's worth it for keeping with what's happening in the game.

In Game 2, against #1 Cleveland St, the Lady Crusaders took them into the 8th inning. For seven innings, the game was scoreless! With an out and a runner on, the Vikings shot a ball back up the middle scoring the win, and winning the game 1-0. The ladies play UIC tomorrow in an elimination game at 9AM CT. Aaron Leavitt will have a running commentary going for the game tomorrow too. Go check it out, and enjoy reading about the HL Softball tourney on your Friday morning.

Few more hits would have helped, but one of best defensive games I have ever seen by a Valpo team & Lagesse went toe to toe with one of the best mid major pitchers in D-1. Watch out for the Crusaders in 2011, these young ladies will become seasoned vets.

Does anyone else not find it weird that teams are basically given a disadvantage if they win the first game and lose the second (versus the team that lost the first game)? We have played two games whereas the teams that were beaten in the first round have played one (UWGB & UIC) and are probably more well-rested and ready for tomorrow. I understand with a 6-team format this is probably necessary, and anyone with a loss has a fight ahead of them, but that seems wrong to me.

UIC has option to use any pitcher with 24 hrs rest. This is the 1st year that all teams didn't make the tourney, I guess a reaction to the economy??? Baseball stayed with all teams in the tourney,of course they have only 7. All said,Valpo has had a good year & I hope things will only get better in 2011/12. Go Valpo beat UIC

Is there a 9-team bracket setup that could have worked to allow Loyola, Youngstown, and Detroit to play for a shot at the HL bid to the Women's CWS? I guess for some of these sports, where you can play your way back from elimination, having a smaller tourney bracket setup allows for issues like weather, field conditions, last minute hotel accommodations, etc., works because all nine teams have all conference season to get themselves into this bracket. If they can't win the games to earn a spot, why should they just be given a spot because they are a part of the conference, or the money says they have to have one, like we see in basketball? The essence of team sport, "Win or Die As A TEAM", if you can't win as a team during the conference season, then I don't feel you've earned the right/sense of entitlement to go on to postseason play. Sometimes I agree with this in basketball too, but the money talks there, unlike the lack of money for baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, where not all of the teams can participate because there isn't an agreed upon bracket format that could work for some of them logistically.
Anyhow, if Valpo has to play an extra game or two to make the championship game, they just have to show how much they want to win that berth as a TEAM. It sounds like Coach Schneider has the team that could do it too. I mean, we look like we're young based on our roster, but if we could take the #1 seed to extra innings thru a scoreless ballgame, then this team showing they don't give in. They let their play determines who wins and loses, not their youth/inexperience at championship college level play. This is why the season is long. I'm happy for this group of ladies putting softball on the radar at Valpo!! Keep it up ladies!!!

I'll say it-GREAT JOB YESTERDAY VALPO SOFTBALL. Going to be tough today, but give it your all. Valpo [3-1] vs.WS[1-1] & with a win vs CSU[2-0]. Should be crazy, both opponents have LARGE fan groupps here & it is very vocal. CSU vs. WSU fans were getting after it.

Congrats to the Lady Crusaders softball team. They played a great set of games and the loss to WSU this morning was tough. It was 1-0 until the bottom of the 6th and WSU's pitcher was on a roll. Winners' bracket was tough with CSU and WSU. For those who don't know Ohio women's softball, it is very, very tough and CSU has a number of top HS players from NE Ohio, and WSU picks up a bunch from SW and NE Ohio too.

What a great tourney for Valpo & how about WSU coming back to beat CSU 2 times to win. Congrats to Alex on all tourney team, that is quite an honor. Great blog by coach that kind of recaps things & the season, next year should even be better.

How about sara Strickland making 2nd team NFCA all region for the Midwest. Not sure, but I think that is Valpo's first for SB. She is only a soph-remember.
