If you haven't seen the new Union before, I'm guessing this is also the first time you've seen the Uptown East Apartments, the Eastgate roundabout, new facades on East Lincolnway businesses, new curbing and wider street on E. Lincolnway, and possibly the Hampton, Holiday Inn Express, and Country Inn & Suites. What did you think?

Eastgate roundabout... frustrating... We have traffic circles everywhere out here and its pretty easy to navigate them. I don't understand why it causes such problems for the drivers there. Lincolnway... Looks nicer, seems a bit odd that there is a ton of new stuff and upgrades to the businesses there, but most of the vacant buildings that were there when I was in school remain. Hampton and Holiday Inn were built when I was in school. It was pretty surreal to see so much change to the campus that I left 6 years ago. I felt like an old man saying "You kids don't know how good you have it!"

Traffic circles are extremely rare in this area. In fact, to my knowledge the closest ones are in the South Bend airport area. Consider yourself fortunate you weren't here when it first opened up. The confusion was comical. But most people were good sports, and we're all a lot better with experience. I think most people would agree that the roundabout does a great job alleviating a formerly very congested traffic area.

My first experience with a roundabout was a fairly busy one in Syracuse, NY more than 20 years ago. Once you get through the first time, it really is a breeze. For those that are just now becoming aware of roundabouts/circles - get used to it. Most new road construction will utilize them, as they really do move more traffic through an intersection.

Last apartment complex I lived in had a tiny roundabout near the entrance -- a one-lane roundabout, no less. I swear I'm the only one that ever figured it out. I'd enter it on my way into the complex and there would be a car to my left, turning left, and then stopping because I beat them to the circle and couldn't believe anyone could be that dense. So they had to wait for me to pass them by.
I think if you have half a brain, you figure it out soon enough. I occasionally, when I'm up there, get tripped up a bit in the 2-lane roundabout near the university, but other than that, it seems pretty intuitive to me.

Most hoosiers I know are squares. Squares dont fit ito circles so, 4 way stops appear to be the solution.

No need at all to disparage Indiana here. Just jj being himself which seems to be a man with poor quality decision making.
