This is good news for the VU Baseball program! Congrats to everyone involved, especially Bo and Bryce.
Is there a coincidence that another McClendon is on the coaching staff in Detroit? I wish them both well. If Bo can pick up a few position tools in the minors as his father did, he may have a chance.

Not much different than the Dave Duncan & Chris Duncan deal in St Louis. Dave Duncan was not happy to see his son run out of town in St Louis so much so that he almost left the team himself. That would have been a huge loss for the Cardinals.

Ozzie Guillen's youngest son was drafted by the White Sox, but Ozzie offered him $50,000 to go to college instead of meddling in the rookie level minors, since he was only taken in the 22nd round of the draft.

I doubt that Shafer get a contract offer soon. The Cubs picked 30 pitchers ahead of him most likely they will sign enough of them to fill up their minor league roster. By the middle of August some of them will be cut, roster spots will open up and if the Cub scouts like what Shafer does over the summer he will get an offer before the Cubs lose the right to sign him. Does anybody know where Shafer is playing his summer ball? I know he played in the Northwood League with the Woodchucks last year but I don't see him listed on their roster.

If Shafer comes back and Jared Miller is healthy, Valpo may have three players drafted next year. Gaedele is batting third for the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League which had 162 current and former players drafted last week.

I highly doubt Shafer goes pro as that late of a pick. He will do himself better if he plays his SR year and shows this year was not a fluke, and position himself to be more likely to succeed in pro ball. As far as Bo, it is great to have relatives that did good things in pro baseball. He gets 29 AB's this year, and not that much total the 3 years prior. I am sure he has talent, but feel this is more of a favor than anything. I hope he does have a good chance at a pro career, but see these types of things often. I had a guy at my HS that was drafted in the late rounds as a favor from his personal hitting coach, who was in the Blue Jays organization as a scout... Brian Wolotka was a stud btw, had something like 16 HR's the year he played for us. Don't think he did much in pro ball, but he could hit! I did not like pitching against him my FR year lol.

STANK-A-lotka? Yes that boy could hit, but he could have used some UNDER ARMour if you know what I mean?
Did he ever pitch for you guys? He started off as a pitcher/hitter, but unfortunately never fit in at BU.

Haha, I get what you mean.
He did not pitch but a few innings for us. He was mainly concentrating on trying to hit the ball out of the park on every pitch lol

I'm sorry, but the only reason Bo McClendon was drafted is that his father is a Tiger coach. The kid never started at VU, and I have it on good authority that he used to skip practices his freshman and sophomore years. His sense of entitlement runs high, and this won't help. How does a a kid who can't hit higher than .240 in the Horizon League merit a draft pick? He doesn't. I'm a bit surprised that Valpo is giving it as much p.r. as they are.

Valpo24, think about it. Any program is going to tout their pro draft picks/players, regardless of what they think of the situation! Having 2 draft picks tells potential players, 'hey, come over here! We can get you drafted and give you a chance to play professional baseball!'

I just took a look at Bo's stats, and I cannot believe that the was drafted, family ties or not!?
All but 2 other position players on the roster played more games than him, and he had a whopping 26 at bats??
Amazing, and pathetic.
I wonder how that bitter pill tastes for Muhlsteff and O'Gara??
