Yeah, the other players must question this even more, as I would have lol.
Granny, you are correct, and I have inquired with our staff in the past about such things but received no response. DFW is one of the best places to recruit football and baseball players for sure, as well as softball. It is a big reason that TCU (my MBA alma mater) has gained national prominance in both sports (football/baseball), as they finally realized they should recruit the local talent first. I am more than willing to help out where it does not result in an NCAA violation lol.
You can typically find players in local HS' that are second-tier on their HS teams here, but can be stars in D-1 schools outside of Texas. My HS (Colleyville-Heritage) was actually ranked #1 in baseball in the state this year until a loss in the play-offs, which would automatically put you in tops in the nation. There is a school a few minutes away that is always tops in nation in just about every sport, Southlake Carroll. The list really goes on and on with athletic talent that is pilfered by D-1 programs nationally in all sports. I always said that my district was harder to pitch in than our (VU's) conference, routinely sending people to Texas, Oklahoma, A&M, Rice, Baylor, etc lol. It was like facing a team of HS all-stars game in and game out :-).
Jeremy Buttell on UIC's basketball team was from my HS, and is the younger brother of one of my teammates that ended up playing baseball at TCU. Another current Chicago connection is James Russell, who is on the Cubs now. I actually baby-sat him when I was an early teenager lol. We actually had him on our HS team at the same time as Rafael Palmeiro's son. Lots of professional athletes end up residing in this area due to no state income tax, competitive sports, and cheaper housing.
