I decided to start a thread to highlight some small campus improvements that didn't deserve their own threads. Here are two recent improvements: 1. Landscape improvements to the Art/Psychology building. The sidewalks used to be severely cracked, and the landscaping was out of control and poorly taken care of. Here are current pictures. 2. New athletic field. The ultimate frisbee team often used the field near the main entrance to the university (west of Kretzmann Hall) to practice, but the university is planning to construct a new welcome center on that land. To provide space for the team to practice, the university cleared land (and flattened the land) directly south of Guild/Memorial Halls. This hilly, tree-filled area was flattened and should make for a decent athletic field. Since I took this photos, it has become flatter.

Huh. I didn't really have the space on my radar. But sure, why not clear it a bit for athletic use.
There's an ultimate frisbee "team"? You think the university actually had them in mind for this non-trivial construction project?
Glad to hear that Ultimate's on firmer footing at Valpo! In my student years (1996-2000) AFAIK there were only rather occasional pick-up games.
In 2005-2006 when I was back on campus the pickup seemed a bit more consistent and organized, I joined in a time or three.
Do they travel to tournaments and such?
In any case, thanks for the updates and photos!

There is a "club" ultimate frisbee team now that travels to different schools (Notre Dame, Grand Valley State, etc) to compete in tournaments. As far as I know, this new athletic field was built with them in mind, but I would guess not exclusively for them.

Hey okinawa (or anyone else that's on/around campus) could you post some pictures of the new floor at the ARC if you ever get a chance to wonder over that way. Thanks.
