I too am very surprised by this sudden announcement. However, I wish Coach Schneider all the best in his future endeavors and want to thank him for all he accomplished in building the program to what it is over the seven years he spent at Valpo! Best of luck to you Coach Schneider!

This seems odd to me. He said this in his blog in May: 2010/2011 could be a great year. We will have new locker rooms, new uniforms, a new look to our stadium and a new team. It should be a great year! Does this sound like a guy ready to resign? Must have been a very good offer though no word on where he is going. Based on the record of the team and the support from our current administration my guess is that Mark will bring in another top flight coach. Good luck to our player and to Randy going forward.

This really isn't that big of a shocker. Randy had interviewed for other positions for a number of years. He got pissed at me a few years ago when, on a national softball forum, I refered to his time at Valpo as just another rung on the ladder. My comments weren't meant to be negative, but it was easy to tell that he was using Valpo as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. Even though we had our differences throughout Whitney's 4 years, I am glad he was here the entire time and she didn't have to go thru a coaching change. When it's posted where he went, most will understand his decision. He has goals for his career and he's making a move to attain those goals. Now - let's just hope Valpo can make the kind of hire that Butler did and get an exceptional coach. Scott Hall at Butler was a steal. They will rule the conference within a couple of seasons.

Don't understand what the fuss is all about. Hell,172-187-1 over seven years isn't much to brag about, but then again Valpo is good at tolerating losers.

This, from the press release: The Crusaders won 20 or more games in six of his seven seasons after reaching the mark just three times in the program’s first 22 years. Ignorance continues to rule jj's life. Oh, the bliss!

Overall,172-187-1. What more needs to be said.

Overall,172-187-1. What more needs to be said. Try this: In the five years prior to his arrival Valpo was 53-165. In his last five years his team was 134-112. He was Co-Coach of the Year in 2008. Look at the talent he has attracted and understand that the Valpo softball program is ready for a breakout year. He won a bunch of games against major conference teams. I could go on. It will be very tough to find a coach of his ability.

Dont know whatcha got till its gone. We will miss the hard working coach that always put Valpo Softball first. I often reflect on the countless hours of raking, dragging, chalking lines, pulling weeds, painting bases and so on, that Coach Schneider put in during the past 7 years at valpo. There would be times when the field was flooded on game, Coach Schneider would be out there at 6 in the morning bucketing water off the field trying to get it ready for a 3 oclock game. Nine hours of very hard work and then try to get prepared to play a double header. Could you emagine a basketball coach waxing the court for 9 hours and then try and coach a game? That would never happen. Valpo Softball will have a very hard time replacing the worker, the coach, the friend that it had in Randy Scheider. Good luck to you Coach and God Bless You.

Not to discredit any of the great work that Coach Schneider has done (I think he was a heck of a coach) but when you're play 50or 55 games a year as do most major softball programs, winning 20 isn't that difficult, even at a Horizon League school.
