I will be in Valpo next month for the first time in years. I want to take my wife to some of my ol' hang-outs. Are the following places still around?: Jackson's Bar McNamara's CooCoo Club Northside Tap Depot Franklin House Jester's Fred Skinner's Round the Clock Restaurant Thanks for any info :cheers Attachments:

Well, Jackson's is now called Duffy's. The CooCoo Club went away probably 6-7 years ago, if you're thinking about the place on Washington Street just north of Lincolnway. Northside is still there, and the Franklin House is under new ownership and has been updated. For Depot, are you referring to Inman's Bowling Alley? That building is now a banquet hall, because Inman's has a "new" building east of town on Evans Avenue. They have a bar, but it's not called the Depot. I'm not sure what you're talking about as far as Jester's, and there is an Around the Clock Restaurant on the corner of Morgan and Lincolnway, but I don't think it's owned by a Fred Skinner.

What about Azar's Big Boy? Azar's is now Broadway Cafe - busy place, large portions For those who haven't been to Valpo in some time, I would recommend Pikk's Tavern - good food, good atmosphere. www.pikkstavern.com/

In terms of Jester's, I think he's talking about the space in the old union that was in the lower level space opposite the main cafeteria? I don't know if that's been moved over to the new union, or if the concept of Jester's moved...anyone who would know about that would be a much better help.

there is no jester's in the new union. the cafe has some of the same stuff - i guess it could be considered a hybrid of the lank store and jesters. but a lot of the food that was served there is now available in the founder's table dining room.

Go all out and surprise your wife with dinner at Strongbows. I would highly recommend the meatloaf if you know what I mean. For dessert try the dairy queen. Next day go to Fetlas and buy her some nice threads and a few handguns. They got some good camping gear also. Do her up right, show her the Valpo that calling our name! :dance:danceCan't wait to go back there!!

Fetlas is now closed due mostly to the economy.

It has been almost three years since my wife and I have been in Valpo, but we had a great dinning experience at Bistro 157. Good food, great wine list, but pricey compared to other Valpo restaurants. We were surprised that middle class Valpo had such a good restaurant. You get what you pay for.Parking could be a problem Enjoy! Lucrezia in Chesterton was also a good place to dine Try it.

Don't be surprised! Since the late-90's, at least, Valpo has a range of upscale eating options.
And, I agree, Bistro 157 is impressive!

How about Elena Marie's (?) you know, the one on old campus by the intramural field. I've had pretty good meals there a couple of times and nice people.

What day is the Franklin House lingerie show? OYG!!!! I went to only one lingerie show at the F-House, but I actually won a red nightie in the raffle. Of course I gave it to my college sweetheart. Yes, to anticipate moodboom's next question, she put it on later that night. In anticipation of deadcatbounce's next question, yes, I did, I must certainly did! :censored:censored:censored:censored:censored:censored Attachments:

Every day was lingerie day at the F house. Or at least every night. Scantilly dressed women sounding like Marge Simpsons' sister Velma smoking in one hand the other gently caressing the chain that attached her man's wallet to his jeans. I met my first squeeze there. Extremely nice but she had too much facial hair. Anyways, can't wait to play darts at the F house. I heard a Theta Chi '89 is now head bouncer there now.
