I'm surprised there is no mention on the Valpo athletic site but Bryce Shafer signed with the Cubs. He was assigned to the Rookie Arizona League. Shafer made his debut last last Wednesday giving up a run in 1/3 inning of work so he now has a sterling ERA of 27.00.

Congratulations to Bryce, I guess. I can't imagine this will end up being a great decision 2-3 years down the road. However, I can't fault him for following his dreams either. Best of luck Bryce!

Good luck to him, but I think finishing his SR year would have done him well, now that people have really started to notice him more...

Good luck to him, but I think finishing his SR year would have done him well, now that people have really started to notice him more... He also would have been able to have a college degree, should anything have happened to curtail his baseball career professionally. If he keeps up this pace with the Arizona Cubs, he may end up back at Valpo to finish out senior, then climbing the ranks of independent league baseball? A 27.00 ERA, even in instructional leagues isn't all that great a sign...

He has been given the opportunity to record one out in his career at this point.
