You are right. Valpo again made the top 5 list, but our acceptance rate is the worst of the top 5. Creighton - 82 Butler - 79 Drake - 74 Xavier - 73 Valpo - 91. Hell, if you can't get into the top 4,you always have Valpo as a safety net. Nevertheless,I'm pleased that we remain in the top 5. Go Valpo! I would submit that if Valpo and Butler switched campuses, acceptance rates would be switched, as well. Butler resides in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country with one of the worst public school systems in the country. Thus, they would naturally have (1) more applicants and (2) more rejections, given their environment. The same holds true for Xavier, located in another educational cesspool. Taking these external factors into account, the most impressive acceptance number by far belongs to Drake.

I clearly hadn't thought about the campus location and the number of applicants coming in from local students. Valpo is on the way up--no doubt, just give this current administration a few years. Big things ahead!!

Two things stand out from the US News report. One has been mentioned several times so I won't dwell on it, but VU is listed in the "A+ Schools for B Students" category, which no doubt reflect our easy admissions policies. The other thing I'd like to mention is that VU is 3rd among peer assessment, which is important. Way back in 1987, when US News first came out with its rankings, the only thing they looked at was academic reputation -- and VU ranked first that year. For VU to still rank third in peer assessment is pretty good. I can't think of anything else that is holding us back in these rankings except our admissions numbers and ACT scores, which are below par. Paul

Funny thing is Erik Hromadka has met personally with Mr. Forbes. Perhaps Steve kept this one quiet. Lest we not forget, "E" runs a national acclaimed water company. He is from Austria and the small town he came from started the spring water craze. I am surprised he is not mentioned. Perhaps if he were Taylor Tequila, Justin Beeber or some other person to hit the tv he would have.

Seriously, Erik is headed for the big time, keep your eye on him and his GWTR. If you ever wanted to get in on the ground floor, and I mean down in the bedrock, check it out.

I hear Erik may be returning for homecoming! If you want to catch a local celebrity, keep your eyes out for a big head in a Chevy Nova.
