Oh and BTW, looked like Purdue had some issues with Western Illinois the other day?

A 40+ loss to St. Joe will really put a damper on Communiversity Day. Maybe the fireworks will ease some of the pain coupled with a Vball win over Butler. A win would be ideal. Go Valpo!

The notion that Coach Carlson is doing something wrong or isn't the right guy is beyond stupid. This guy has a very good track record of turning or starting programs, and the lack of success in the first two games just shows how bad thing were. The linked article in the Post-Trib discusses Carlson and his history with the legendary Red Faught at Franklin. Faught had a record of 120-99 while Carlson's, so far is 110-103-3. Not that far off. We have a GREAT coach who will instill confidence and disipline into our players. Here is the story: www.post-trib.com/sports/mutka/2700770,%20new-jmutka-0913.article

I just don't want to see the team go 0-11. I think he is a great coach with a great system. It will be harder to recruit without getting a couple of wins this year. Go Valpo!

St. Joe lost to Shepherd (wherever that is) by a score of 55 - 0. I'd like to think that Valpo would be able to hang in with them.

Look, nobody's expecting a miracle here, but at least pretend to be in the games. He may be a fine coach, but that doesn't make losing 87-7 any better now does it? There are two kinds of coaches...those that run their system and try to make round pegs in square holes, and those that change the system to fit the talent they have. I prefer the latter but both can work...eventually
Oh, and as for the Rich Rod comparison...He's disgusting. If Michigan knew then what they know now, do you think they'd hire him? I doubt it. I hope they enjoy their probation. If it weren't for a complete freak in Denard Robinson, they'd have lost that game to Notre Dame. Actually they almost did lose that game, even with Robinson.

Coach Carlson had nothing to do with the schedule, although he has said that he wants us to schdule scholarship teams like Western. Western does play at a very different level with all scholarship players and didn't do to bad against Purdue, now, did they? As for Franklin, they are where we want to be. A very good D3 school who had won two straight conference championships and were picked second by the conference coaches this season. D3 you say?, sure. Both Franklin and Valpo play non-scholarship football and compete for the same players. Clearly, in time, Valpo will have an advantage over these other schools when the kids realize they can get a superior education, travel from coast to coast to play and get their scores on ESPN. I don't know what to expect on Saturday but, if the weather is dry, I would think that Valpo should, at a minimum, put on an entertaining effort.

Another good example would be Coach Rodriguez and Michigan. They were horrible the first two years as he had to find the right players (and QB) for his system. There were complaints from the "old guard," calls for his head, indictments that his system wouldn't work in the Big 10(11)(12) and a change of culture (insert discussion on whether he skirts the rules) but the folks in NW Indiana saw this weekend the results of the start of that program when the right pieces are there. Ha. One bad team squeaking out a win over another bad team -- not exactly a paragon of coaching prowess. Michigan has a long ways to go before they're relevant again, I fully expect Rodrguez to be fired long before that program does anything substantial ever again.

Coach Carlson had nothing to do with the schedule, although he has said that he wants us to schedule scholarship teams like Western. ...And Youngstown State. I would be interested to know if that game was scheduled before or after Carlson was hired. Is Valpo getting a big payout for these games? If they are, at least that makes some sense. If not, why sign up to get your a** kicked in public? Western does play at a very different level with all scholarship players and didn't do to bad against Purdue, now, did they? Something tells me that says more about Purdue than it does about Valpo. If you can't be competitive in the slightest bit, why are they on the schedule? 45-0 isn't competitive. Having scores like 45-0 and 42-7 on ESPN is a positive? Really? It's not like it says Ohio State 42 Valpo 7, it's Franklin College, who most people couldn't even find on the map and Valpo. I can't see how that's a positive. And to wrap up, I really do hope this gets turned around, because the way it is now is bad for everyone. Just be in the games, especially against non scholarship DIII schools. I wasn't hoping for wins, but I was hoping they'd at least be in the games.

I feel pretty confident now in saying Valpo will go 0-11 this year, and that will bring the losing streak to 19 games by the end of the season. Look out Prairie View, here come the Crusaders! Outscored 137-14...that's pathetic, and there's no sugar coating that one.

...and get their scores on ESPN. Here's the "recap" on CBS Sports site. VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) - Three St. Joseph's players rushed for more than 100 yards on Saturday night as the Pumas routed Valparaiso 50-7 for their first win of the season. Garrick Hall had 178 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries; quarterback Mack Ogletree ran for 132 yards and three TDs on 16 carries; and Jashon Banks added 106 yards and a TD on 14 carries for St. Joseph's (1-3). The Pumas, a Division II team that had been outscored 112-7 in losses the last two weeks against Indiana State and Shepherd University, finished with 474 yards on the ground against Valparaiso (0-3). Ogletree also had an easy time through the air, completing 8 of 9 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. Valparaiso, which trailed 40-0 at halftime, was playing its first home night game in school history. Eric Lemon completed 22 of 39 passes for 184 yards for the Crusaders.

I'm pretty sure the football team has been replaced by an acting troupe wearing football themed costumes. I can't wait for Act IV next week!

Coach C, as expected and reportered here earlier, has begun to make adjustments. That will continue. He is a winning coach and will turn Valpo into a winning program. He has started kids that had experience and done well in camp....now he is looking to see who can block, who can run, and who can throw in a tough real game situation.
I, for one, will support his efforts and those young men on the field who work hard trying for that win..........the team will not go 0-11........have some faith.

CBS Sports doesn't know much about Valpo football. This was NOT the first Night Home game. I went to a night Valpo game played at the old Valpo High school field UNDER THE LIGHTS in 1962.
