Can they pull out a win for the community? I predict VU win 28-24

I hate to say it even against St.Joe I think they make too many mistakes. Valpo will pick off a couple of passes that push the momentum their way but the mistakes made by the Crusaders will more than even out this game and Valpo will lose 33-24.

Can they pull out a win for the community? I predict VU win 28-24 I have to ask, what on earth would inspire you to predict a victory? They haven't won a game, or even pretended to be in a game and have been outscored 87-7! It's not like they are playing Purdue and Notre Dame either. They lost 45-0 to a school that went 1-10 last year (W. Ill) and to Franklin College, a DIII school. I hope they win too, but to predict it seems a bit outlandish to me.

I think that a win is possible IF Coach Carlson realizes that he hasn't had the right guys on the field. There is talent on that team, but they are not being utilized.

I am confident Coach Carlson will turn the ship around and get the team ready to play St. Joe. He has been successful everywhere he's been and he will be successful at Valpo University too. And, yes it will take time. It would be nice to come away with a victory against a St. Joe team that appears to be banged up at the QB spot.

I think I will rely on Coach Carlson to make the talent evaluations concerning who plays and who does not on his team, thank you very much.

Didn't you know that online message boards were the place to get your lineups and assign playing time? :lol

In Coach Carlson's lates entry to the Football blog, he says, in part, : The consensus of our staff after our meeting on Sunday was to build on the things we did right and work to get the players to be more consistent. Consistency is the truest measure of performance and we have been very inconsistent in our play. We also discussed personnel moves so we will see how that plays out this week in practice for the St. Joe game on Saturday night. Consistency in practice is what will get you on the field in the home opener on Saturday night. Here is the full post: blogs.valpo.edu/football/

Rather than make a broad statement please tell us who should be playing that is not. Who should not be playing. They have given up 87 points and scored 7. I'm guessing the entire starting lineup. I'm just kiddin', but its pretty obvious that some changes need to be made. I was at the Franklin game on Saturday, Valpo needs to use them as a model to build on. ESPN Magazine ranks them #1 in the nation for D-3 tailgaiting experience. For a school of 1000 students, they put on a pretty impressive show.

Maybe, maybe not, who knows what the score would have been.
I just find comments that were made to be a cop out. Tells us who is better and where they should play.
I was also at the game and was amazed when I drove on campus. Very impressive! They have the offense we need.

They have the offense we need. And they have done it with local talent. Not only do they have very few out of state players, they have very few players from outside a 25 mile radius from the school. I had never been to a Franklin College football game before, but I recognized about half of the names on the roster as being local kids that I had read about in the paper. My hats off to Coach Leonard and the things he has accomplished at such a small school. I hope the same thing can be said about Valpo in the next few years.

One thing to remember, and it will be difficult to change, is that Valpo is a basketball school. Part of that has to do with playing D1, but at the D3 level, like Franklin, football is king. The attendance at last Saturday's game was posted as 3225. Pretty impressive.
Last year, against a conference opponent, Rose-Hulman, in a key game, there were 505 in attendance for a basketball game.
I know the administration at Valpo wants to change the football experience into a winning one if for no other reason than to fire up the student body to follow and support all sports. That is part of why they brought in Coach Carlson. This football mess didn't start last year. It has festered for many years. It is still however, the only sport at Valpo where a "big" game is against Franklin or St. Joes. If we scheduled Franklin in basketball the fans would be moaning like crazy about "why are we playing these little schools".
This sentiment isn't lost on football recruits. I can only imagine it is tough to want to play at Valpo when they know that the fans are trying to kill time until basketball starts or really want to see the soccer team take on Michigan or Notre Dame versus going to see Franklin play.
It isn't an easy problem but one I believe Carlson will solve in the not to distant future.

Hell,I'd rather Root (Taylor) for the volleyball team, than spent time watching the choir boys lose to St. Joe. We should/could become a volleyball school. Congratulations!
