I am tired of all the negative comments on this board, particularly the unkind comments about football and the new mascot. Our mens' soccer program is ranked 7th in the region, in between Ohio State and Notre Dame. The womens' program is doing quite well. The volleyball program is rock solid. The golf programs are doing much better. Fall sports as a whole are doing just fine. There are several building projects in various stages of planning around campus. I challenge any of you to find a school VU's size that has as many projects underway or in the planning stage as VU. We just brought in a large freshman class. All of these things are worthy of acknowledgment and discussion yet generate, at most, only a couple of comments on this board. And yet we have a whole thread devoted to the supposed deficiencies of our new mascot? Hey -- get a life. Focus on something important. Quit being so negative. Grow up. Give our coaches some space and support them. Give credit where credit is due. Paul

FYI: The new Crusader is a complete disaster and an embarrassment to Valparaiso University just like the football team.

Paul So you create a thread complaining about people complaining (rightly so) about our dismal football showings and awful new mascot? If the men's soccer program, women's soccer program, volleyball program and golf program are doing well, and you want people to talk about them instead, why haven't you? I just looked at your past 20 posts, not a mention of any of these. You are really going to tell a bunch of people on an online message board to "focus on something important?" You tell all of us to "grow up" yet yours is probably the most childish post of them all... How about we all talk about whatever we want and if you don't want to participate in the discussion, skip the thread and create one (or join one already started) lauding the great things that are going on with our sports teams or school in general.

Also, the mascot is the face of the university on several levels. It is not "unimportant". It was important enough for the university to proclaim its arrival - now that everyone HATES it we are supposed to think it is not important.
The building program is great and needed.
VU must now show it can make quick and correct decisions by getting rid of the mascot before October. There are many firms that help schools do this kind of thing.
It is horrible.

I think the new crusader looks great, I'll miss the old one but this new one will fit in really well!

I am with I may now go to homecoming just to make sure that mascot is not around. If the administration is going to let that thing stick around the mascot deserves what it gets.
The students owe it to themselves to make sure that mascot is out by Saturday. The alums owe it to the students.
