This email was forwarded to me, some pretty good ideas:
I'm just one man and I know this is a long email, but please: Hear me out. I have an idea, and We have all seen how powerful one person with an idea can become, It's not the man that gains the power, it is the idea. With every person that an idea touches its strength grows by leaps and bounds. I propose that We take back Our Government. Revolution was inspired by Our forefathers on the grounds of logic and common sense, through this reasoning We became Americans. Our forefathers could see that one day the government they created would become more powerful than its citizens, and for that reason they gave us power that could not be taken away. I propose we use that power, and put forth my Treatise on Reclaimation:
In keeping with the spirit of the Constitution of These United States and working within the bounds it and it alone set for Us, its unjustly governed citizens; I, and the undersigned members of this forum, wish to reclaim our Democracy for the People, of the People and by the People.
Our forefathers warned of a two party system. Behold the fulfillment of their dire prophesies. We now have a government that has divided its people on issues that in all likelihood will never be settled; issues such has gun ownership, abortion, creationism and capital punishment. Issues that have served to take attention away from the real problems and in doing so have managed to allow our country to fall into the control of special interests.
We ask not for finger-pointing and scape-goating. We ask not for apologies and empty promises. We ask only for your answer in the shape of directed nonpartisan action, led by a loyalty to your constituents guided by the North Star of logic.
We make no overt threat; as to do so undermines the very fabric so many have fought and died to weave thick and soft with the promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness through fair and equal representation. The only promise we make to you is that should you fail in heeding our requests, we shall move to ensure that you will not be re-elected.
We ask for several minor changes in the current status quo:
1) The War in Iraq
a. We understand that someone somewhere succumbed to the mark of humanity. We do not ask for blame to be assigned, we do not ask for an apology and we do not hold any one person accountable.
b. We demand an answer. Matters of military are for the military's concern. We want something done, something unilateral, immediate and ultimately final.
2) The Current Oil Debacle
a. We understand that we as consumers have no ability to affect the price of commodities we depend on to survive. We understand the only means we have to protect ourselves is to appeal to OUR Government.
b. It is through this understanding that we demand our Government to protect the interest of its citizenry and it is through this understanding we encompass all things requisite to our way of life.
i. We demand that Oil, Electric and Water et cetera be removed from the domain of free enterprise.
ii. We demand that these necessities be put under governmental control to ensure their continued availability and affordability to the American People.
1. We also see no reason why the government should be unable to realize comparatively small operating revenue through reduction in overhead with the best interest of the American People always in mind.
3) The Tax Code
a. Tax has become, and was at its application, an unnecessary burden to this country. We understand a government needs revenue to provide services to its citizens and we propose the following:
i. Abolishing personal income tax.
1. To do so would make the Internal Revenue Service immediately obsolete; saving countless billions in Government overhead.
2. It would free up personal budgets giving citizens the freedom to pursue financial independence without undo interference.
ii. Replace personal income tax with a flat tax.
1. Tax us only on the money we choose to spend.
a. Impose a Federal Sales Tax on all goods trafficked in These United States.
b. Impose a Federal Luxury Tax on goods that are grossly beyond what is necessary. I.e. We need automobiles, but We do not need to spend Fifty thousand dollars on one, We need food but We do not need to purchase brand name food.
i. Graduate this Luxury Tax to represent the luxury it is taxing.
iii. Corporate tax.
1. The vast majority of us do not understand the corporate tax structure.
a. We propose the following
i. Freeze the price of all consumer goods at their current level for two years, this will ensure that corporations do not unfairly raise prices while the market place is realigning itself to the new system.
ii. Impose a flat Federal Gross Corporate Income Tax.
1. Set this Tax as the average corporate tax paid compared to that entity's gross income and apply it across the board.
iv. Create a Federal Charitable Contribution Mandate.
1. Set this as the average tax-deductible donation compared to that entity's gross income. This is the amount that all tax paying entities must donate to charitable causes expressed as a percent of gross income. Should an entity elect not to pay this, it may be paid as extra taxes and allocated by the government.
4) The Proliferation of Riders
a. We see it as necessary for an efficient and economical Congress that every bill that passes through the legislative branch of our Government be confined to only one issue.
i. Pattern this after Maryland 's State Government.
1. This will allow the people to see, and more importantly understand, the bills their representatives have voted on and form opinions respective to that.
5) The Bane of Special Interest
a. We do not believe special interests have our best interests in mind. Therefore we do not believe that a government for the people, by the people and of the people should be subject to the whims thereof.
i. It is impossible to remain unbiased with lobbyists contributing sums of money legally and otherwise.
ii. We are logical people and do understand that lobbyists and their masters contribute substantially to your coffers.
b. We feel that in lieu of campaign contribution reform Congress should have their pay doubled effective immediately and be exempted from tax while in office.
i. This exemption will only apply to an amount equal to that year's income. Any money spent in addition to that sum shall be taxed doubly.
1. This will allow them to campaign free of special interest money.
6) The Importance of Being Punctual
a. We feel that in order to better serve the people they represent all members of the Congress shall adhere to a strict attendance policy.
i. Congressmen must be present for 90% of every session. Failure to meet this level of presence will result in fines of Five Thousand Dollars per one per cent below the established 90% threshold and are to be donated to the International Red Cross.
We the undersigned members of this forum do feel that these small steps will lead to larger change and inevitably progress. We feel that those chosen to lead may have lost sight of their path of devoted servitude and it is up to Us, the people of this government, to remind you why you need Us. To teach you that it is not in spite of Us that you govern but because of Us that you govern. In Our Democracy We have been given only one insurmountable weapon, Our vote. We have all pledged to vote for whoever opposes those who oppose Us.
This is the chance We have given you.
If you don't agree with this that is your perogative, but please forward it to someone you know. If you do agree with this join the cause and discuss it on Our forum: www.reclaimtheUSA.proboards104.com .
Sincerely,
