BTW, Toledo has now won three in a row....I guess we got them going.... I guess, since we already lost to them, that's a good thing.

Through Wednesday's games, H League members are 66-45 overall and 55-45 against fellow Division 1 teams. The league is now assured of finishing no lower than 12th in the RPI, ahead of the MVC for the first time in memory. After the turn of the year, the league's RPI will be practically fixed for the rest of the season, sans a stellar or abysmal showing in the BracketBuster series. Last year, league members posted records of 74-53 and 61-53. 4-0 vs. MAAC (clinched season series) Cleveland State over Iona Milwaukee over Niagara Butler over Siena Detroit over Niagara 3-0 vs. Great West (clinched season series) Loyola over Texas Pan American Green Bay over North Dakota Loyola over Texas Pan American 3-0 vs. OVC (clinched season series) Loyola over Eastern Kentucky Loyola over Eastern Illinois Loyola over SIU Edwardsville 3-0 vs. SWAC (clinched season series) Wright State over Southern Loyola over Alabama State Butler over Mississippi Valley State 2-0 vs. Southland Valparaiso over Texas A&M Corpus Christi Cleveland State over Sam Houston State 1-0 vs. America East Detroit over Albany 1-0 vs. Big Sky Valparaiso over Northern Colorado 1-0 vs. Big West Milwaukee over UC Davis 5-1 vs. Summit (clinched season series) IUPUI over Green Bay Wright State over Oakland Green Bay over North Dakota State Milwaukee over South Dakota State Valparaiso over IPFW 3-1 vs. Northeast Cleveland State over Bryant Youngstown State over St. Francis (Pa.) I think it's worth noting, that while the Horizon League has definitely cleaned up against the mid major conferences, the HL is 3-19 against BCS schools.

Good point....I was looking at that, too. They are 3-2 against the MWC, though, which is respectable. Also, Butler will have two opportunities here in the next two days against Florida State and either Baylor or Washington State.
Another note...besides those two Butler games, Valpo's game against Ball State is the only HL game before the 30th, which is when conference play starts "for good" (except Houston Baptist vs. Milwaukee Jan. 3rd, and BracketBusters.)

I think it's worth noting, that while the Horizon League has definitely cleaned up against the mid major conferences, the HL is 3-19 against BCS schools. I don't think any of the Horizon fans are claiming to be BCS level. We are hoping to be included in the top 9 or 10 conferences and by doing so gain an extra bid to the dance and NIT. I think that goal is nearly complete.

72 is all over this. As far as I can tell, assuming at minimum a 14-4 league record for both Cleveland State and Butler, we will be a guaranteed two-bid league with two more wins in Honolulu. Please also consider that only five of the 22 games played against BCS opponents were played at buildings not normally occupied by said BCS opponents. Our teams won two of those games and very nearly claimed a third (Milwaukee vs. Marquette). Let's focus on continuing our efforts toward becoming the nation's best mid-major league. By the way, it's Green Bay that hosts Houston Baptist on Jan. 3. Please don't make that mistake again.

I think that goal is nearly complete. Let's assume that Butler wins the regular season and the HL tournament because until they are dethroned, that's what I am going with. If that happens, who do you think get's an at large bid out of the Horizon League based on conference strength and strength of schedule? I can see that Cleveland States record is very good, but they haven't exactly knocked off a giant. I would think they'd need a win over Butler and no more than 4 losses total. Valpo doesn't have a guady record, and hasnt' beaten anybody of note. I guess I see this as a one bid league unless Butler somehow is not the automatic qualifier. Now, as for the NIT, I could see Cleveland State, Loyola (if they quit losing conference games) and maybe Valpo getting a look depending on the conference season

League members went a combined 63-43 and 55-43 in 1997-98, when the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (now Horizon League) sent a record three teams -- Butler, UIC and Detroit -- to the Dance. Just sayin'.

That we were, stl, but I'm guessing dylan just wanted to point out that the HL, in whatever named format, did have a multi-bid season that had more than Butler and Cleveland St. a couple seasons ago.

The league is now assured of finishing no lower than 12th in the RPI, ahead of the MVC for the first time in memory. After the turn of the year, the league's RPI will be practically fixed for the rest of the season, sans a stellar or abysmal showing in the BracketBuster series. My gut feeling still disagrees with this statement. I'll definitely have to take an RPI snapshot after Butler's and Valpo's last (aside from Bracketbuster) non-con games in the next days. (Well, the no lower than 12th might be true. But, I'm quoting a dated version of the claim. We seem to be at 9th now. It's specifically the "practically fixed" that I'm not sure about.) We're ahead of the CAA and CUSA, but it's _really_ tight. Bracketbuster aside, I still feel like the difference in conference RPI details will cost us. We have a better RPI SOS than either of those two, and it seems like that will cost us when we make the conference round robin. Less of our RPI comes from straight W-L, and too much from our opponents' opponents' W-L record (which won't help the other teams in our league, when they play us). CUSA gets a 10-0, a 7-1, a couple of 9-2's, etc. and the worst is a 4-6 of the 12 teams. The Horizon only gets an 11-1, some 8-4's maybe, and from 10 teams has to put up with a 4-8 and a 4-6. Don't get me wrong, ahead of the MVC is good, and ahead of the WCC's not bad. Ahead of the CAA and CUSA would be fantastic.

Can't explain everything today. But think of the conference now as three kings, three donkeys and four star-struck onlookers. On one side of the spectrum, you have Cleveland State (No. 10), Butler (No. 22) and Valpo (No. 86). On the other, you have Loyola (No. 212), Youngstown State (No. 226) and UIC (No. 229). Essentially, you hope that the top three teams find their star and the bottom three lose their way ... or fall on the sword for the good of the conference, if you will. The conference RPI is fixed between Nos. 9 and 11. What matters now is getting as many teams as possible into postseason play. That fundamentally entails having the top half of the league win and the lower half of the league lose. By the way, don't get too swept up in records. You should take a gander at some of the schedules C-USA has played. Here's a fragment of USM's: William Carey, Spring Hill, Cal State Monterey Bay, McNeese State, Alcorn State ... This is Marshall's schedule to date: West Virginia Tech, Glenville State, Chattanooga, at Louisville, Jackson State, FIU, at Ohio, James Madison, at Savannah State, VMI, at James Madison. Merry Christmas, everyone!
