Although our 3-pt shooting has struggled, we still have the 64th best overall shooting percentage in D-1 basketball. That got me to thinking - as poor as our 3-pt. shooting percentage has been, our 2-pt. FG pct. must really be good. It is. In fact, I would call it pretty awesome: 55% Valpo 50% Detroit 48% UIC 47% Butler, WSU, YSU 46% Milw, CSU, Loyola 44% GB This is especially impressive considering that nearly every team we have played is bigger than we are - some considerably bigger.

When I think about what Sparks said about us "needing to hit more 3s", I don't think of that as saying that we need to shoot more 3s, but more that we need to take smarter 3s, not just shoot them because we're open, but shoot them because we really caught the defense off their feet. A lot of times we're just shooting 3s because we're open and have that opportunity, but we just never seem comfortable taking that shot, whether we have it or not. Another thing with the 3s, we need to have the shooter do more with shooting and get in for the rebound. That's one thing my high school coach always taught, "Shoot the ball, and get in for the rebound, or rebound your shot, don't just take the shot and either stand there or run back to be on defense. Shoot the ball, and rebound it, or get in so that you can get that rebound too." He would pull players out of the game for not doing that too, even if the shot was made. It's a fundamental thing, but it would really keep the defense off its feet, and us more into the game in all aspects.
