"The Greek Expansion committee composed of Jennifer Smolnicky, Professor Lanie Steinwart, Tony Bolter, Anna DeLuna, Matt Tynski, Greg Luscko, Emily Bernhard and myself met a number of times this semester to review the re-colonization of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. We also heard a presentation from them two weeks ago and we are pleased to announce that Phi Delta Theta Fraternity will be returning to Valparaiso University in the Fall of 2011!
We are very excited to see the Greek community at Valpo grow with the return of Phi Delta Theta!"

Great news!! Too bad they couldn't go back to their old house.... Pretty sure they wouldn't have wanted to. IIRC, the Phi Delts purposely left a bunch of meat and other perishable stuff behind so that the place would stink as much as possible. Not to mention the amount of physical damage that I'm sure was done to the building (before the demolition that is )

The PDT House had to be demolished as to renovate for modern "college" life. For one thing it would have been too costly to renovate, plus the debt owed on the house. A "45" person house configured the way the Mound Street houses were is not a practical solution today, especially the retrofitting necessary. For example, personal bathrooms/showers, internet/cable/electrical wiring systems, heating and cooling systems, do you need an industrial kitchen, do you need huge communal rooms, barrooms and coolers (oh wait maybe those should be built in). But the costs of building new or using some of the new models for financing using other people's money may be a better solution for housing, not just Phis but other fraternities. Frankly, you're never going to be able to have the "old house" in the way former KIPS (606 Brown) or Phis (652 Garfield) had it -- good, bad or otherwise. 652 served its purpose for nearly 35 years.

Yeah. If you want to see a modern frat house, step inside 801 Union Street!

801 Union street aka Sig Tau house was 10 years ahead of it's time (at least in the late 80s) It embarrassed alll the other houses with advanced electronics, gourmet kitchen, theatre, custom woodwork, acoustical designed party room. This was due to the numerous engineers that lived there. Unfortunately, I lived across the street in a house strung with dirty jock straps and the smell of Ben gay and old spice.

.....and a better 3rd baseman than Ron Santo in a Cub uniform....... Neither Santo nor Cey was the best Chicago third baseman of all time. That was White Sox Bill Melton. Ooops, I meant Beltin' Bill Melton.
