It all comes down to a formula that works...get your win total up there in order to qualify for the NCAA tourney, and go from there. Somebody mentioned that it would be better for ND to play Valpo in order to prepare them for the NCAA tournament. That's only if they get to the NCAA tournament. What if they lose to Valpo? Then what!?! In the end coaches in major conferences are judged by getting to the NCAA's and everything else is a bonus, anything less is a failure.
In that aspect I agree. NCAAs or bust. If Valpo goes 10-6 and ends with 20 wins, finishes in the top 4 in the conference but doesn't make the dance, who cares? I know alot of people don't agree with me on that and I can understand, but I would trade 10 conference titles for one NCAA birth anytime.

I guess too much of my Valpo fandom comes from the "dominate the Mid-Con" years. It was nice to get to the tournament, but not so nice to get smashed most years by a top seed.
I'm still rooting for the Horizon League formula of getting to the tournament and _winning games_, and hope Valpo gets a term before e.g. Homer retires for good. But, I might settle for winning games in second or third-tier post-season tournaments, as a consolation prize.
