TD and IndyValpo might have already discerned this, if they are listening to espn3 right now. Some of the rest of you might get a kick out this: The play-by-play voice on espn3 is none other than Greg Rakestraw, former radio voice of the IUPUI Jaguars. Greg Rakestraw still does a sports radio show in Indy and as you can tell from the ESPN3 broadcast he was definitely at the Valpo/Butler game on New Years Day. Good to hear that Greg is getting rewarded for his superb work. Greg is a graduate of UIndy (formally Indiana Central).

Believe it or not, I still have a couple of audio files from old VU-IUPUI games called by him at "The Jungle". He was kinda fun to listen to.

Great game by Valpo tonight. They got kinda sloppy for a bit in the first half, but I was glad to see them tighten down and really take the life out of YSU to start the second half. Great to see Witt get some action tonight and he looked good in limited time. Once he gets back into the flow of the game he'll be a very good option to have off the bench as the conference season progresses. We beat a team that we should have soundly, now it's time for Cleveland State. CSU is going to be very hungry and very pissed off after getting their asses handed to them in Indianapolis tonight (currently down 22 with 4:20 left).
One question: Why was there nobody at the ARC tonight? Bad weather? Even the student section was very sparse. The crowd was definitely a disappointment, based on what I could see. Hopefully it's a lot better on Sunday (although it's going to be tough with the NFL playoffs being on) because Valpo is going to really need some crowd energy to fight through those Cleveland State hand checks.

Nice team win. The Crusaders didn't play down to YSU and were able to run the offensive side very well and come out way ahead in the rebound department. Good game for ESPN3. Good to see Witt back on the floor and Harris hit some more threes when they were needed. Nick Shelton was also rewarded with some floor time at the end of the game. But as usual it was Johnson and Wood with a little of Broekhoff (wish he would shoot more when needed) that really won the game on the offensive side

Observations from tonight's game: BW played a terrific all around game tonight. He scored, rebounded, got other people involved, pulled the players together during stops in the action, and played with great energy. Not that this is news, but he is one heck of a player and great fun to watch. Cory had an excellent offensive game. Ryan is an amazing position rebounder - 10 boards tonight. Was really overplayed by his man and smothered by their zone, but never tried to force anything.

I'm still upset at the lack of student turnout for this game though. Everyone is just starting the new semester and it's a Friday therefore nobody could use the homework/studying excuse. On top of that, since the game was early, attending shouldn't have interfered with any "going out" plans for the night.

Agree. No excuse for low student turnout. Wish I could say it is due to YSU, but I am afraid it will be the same for all teams but Butler. The students have yet to show me that they are true fans who deserve the team who represents them. If they cared, they would know that the #2 seed double-bye is a big issue and we need every home win to get it...esp. CSU and Detroit. A quick look at a sports page would tell them CSU is 15-2 and tickets are free. Let's see how the the student section looks Sunday. Lame or roaring?

It was snowing fairly steadily most of the afternoon and night, which would maybe deter students from going. I know I would have been there, but I had work.
Also, the sororities have recruitment this week, which means that approximately 250 sorority girls, plus about 80 underclassman getting recruited, were not able to go. That is about one tenth of the undergrads...maybe about 40-75 of them would have gone...not that significant, but one blip on why some were not able to make it.

Are the VU students even back on campus yet? My daughter doesn't start her second semester of college until Monday, and she isn't even allowed in her dorm until Sunday.

There was no press conference given tonight by the YSU coaches and players. Youtube's 10 minute limit on uploads forced me to split the press conference into 2 videos. Enjoy!

Great stuff as always! Thanks again for the videos. I'm bummed YSU didn't do a press conference. Schadenfreude is my guilty pleasure . . . ;D

I'm really not sure why more students come to games. My friends and I faithfully go and we had a blast tonight! Some nice plays and timely dunks really enabled the faithful few to really get into it for a while. What can I say...we're trying...
Unfortunately, Sunday's are usually not good for student turnout as a general rule, combine that with NFL playoffs...and it might be a sparse turnout again. Shouldn't there be more general seats sold because of that Purdue/CSU package tho?
