It is truly neat when 8,000 plus are quiet or just being irritated in general and the 100 or so Valpo fans are making more noise than the 8,000 plus. All they could do was complain about the refs or yell at their team there was nothing else to say but "Sit down, Homer" and even that felt good.

Well played, Valpo, well played!! Your team withstood our great play in the first half and did not fold as other teams have done at the Nutter Center. You are much better defensively than you were last year which is a credit to Homer and his staff. Last night was a great atmosphere for Horizon League basketball!!!

Speaking of attendance, the WSU athletic dept. did a great job over the week of promoting the game to their students and the community. 8400 fans is a major achievement anywhere/anytime in the Mid Major world. Their "blackout" promotion with 5000 T-shirts given away was very cool. We've done the "wear gold" thing before, but never supported by a T-shirt give-away. I hope our athletic dept. was taking notes. As Elmer Fudd would say "da best pard aboou it was when dey were wery quiwet" The real turning moment of the game was when the Crusaders called time out down 14. BWood was livid, Homer was screaming at the team. Bryce grabbed Brandon and must have challenged him to be the leader "on the court." Show the opponent how upset he was by taking his offense and " DEFENSE" to the Raiders. It was a real classic moment! does that explain how in the span of like 5 minutes (checking from my phone), he went from 9 to like 16 right before the half?

As in many players your defense will spark your offense. Actually it just wasn't BWood's defense that blew them away but Buggs, Harris, Kenney, Broekhoff, Little, yes even Johnson, everybody played so well together. I just like to emphasise the defense because that is the difference from last year. We also hit more free throws then the end of the CSU game, about 50% or something.

I didnt see or listen to the game, however....down 40-33 at half, on the road with 8400 in attendance, and winning by 11 on 38-20 second half beatdown. It sure looks good on paper. lowposter Speaking of attendance, the WSU athletic dept. did a great job over the week of promoting the game to their students and the community. 8400 fans is a major achievement anywhere/anytime in the Mid Major world. In defense of the Valpo athletic department, they have given away their fair share of gold and other colored t-shirts over the years, but our fanbase often refuses to put them on and take part in any organized "Wear _______ (insert colored shirt) Night." It's pretty pathetic, but is not the administration's fault.

He had no qualms about taking it from a Valpo fan until the game turned. Then he gave it to his dad. :-)

Great game by the team tonight! defense really played well in the second half and that was the difference. Was it great defense or just wright state not being unconscious like they were in the first half? None the less great win for the team

None the less great win for the team When I watched the WSU highlight package they only showed times when the Raiders scored. They showed all 4 scoring plays from the 2nd half but the 2nd half highlights only lasted about 30 seconds. It will be interesting to see the replay of the game and just how many shots WSU took that weren't contested and they still missed. They sure didn't get many rebounds the whole game.

I expect the rematch at the ARC to be a very tough one. I mean this in a good way, but I'll be glad to "see the back" of Vaughn Duggins after this year (I think?). The kid can just flat out play.

I was a little surprisec when I looked at WSU's record to find that they really didn't have what I would call "impressive" wins, other than against Oakland, at home. They played Richmond tough (who beat Purdue) and beat Miami (leading the MAC) but nothing really beyond.
I think, given how we "dominated" the boards, Butler, with Smith and Howard, will take them apart. Sure hope I'm wrong as having Butler lose again will help keep things tight and give us 1st alone if we can beat the Titans... GO WSU!!

Agreed, Duggins played pretty well last night even with a fracture in his back which he has had since the Chicago Invitational. BWood was virtually unstoppable when he decided to take the game over. Not the outcome I expected but it happens when you live and die by the 3 like we do at times. Our post game is not strong so we play to our strengths which is guard play and when we are on like in the 1st half last night then we are hard to defend. I still don't know if we missed open shots in the 2nd half or forced shots. Hopefully the shots will be hitting the bottom of the net tomorrow night by the Raiders when we play Butler.

I think the thing I have enjoyed more than anything about joining the HL is the quality of the guard play. Duggins has been one of my favorites - dead eye shooter, can create his own shot, is very unselfish, and plays just as hard at the defensive end. Without exception, the top guards in this league play far better team basketball than the the supposed star guards in the Mid Con. Take Watson and Helms...everything was about them - throwing up shots from 25 feet, not looking to make the extra pass, and scoring 30 points from 9-28 from the field while everyone else stands around. Then a season of selfishness is rewarded by being named conf. MVP. I never appreciated their play and I never missed them for a second when they were gone. What a refreshing change...
