Victory Firelight A Butler blog that really pumps up Valpo. They talk to Jerry Palm on the phone. Click the "(click to play)" victoryfirelight.com/2011/01/19/podcast-006-jerry-palm/ Palm picks Butler to win the HL season and for only Butler to go to the NCAA tourney. He thinks Valpo is a strong 2nd.

Interesting report. So when did Demon Lewis leave the Horizon League? Is it safe to assume one of thes two guys is Title in 2011?? I always liked Lewis and his analysis and thought he did a good job in this tape as well.
Glad to hear Valpo is pissing so many people off with their success. Keep it up!!

Let's hope you just misspelled Damon. :-) Misspelling will get you in some trouble as a Valpo grad. :-) That does kind of sound like Title talking as he doubts the stamina of Valpo to hold onto first in the HL.

I thought it was really interesting when they continually talked about Butler and Cleveland State having "resumes" that upstart Valpo could not match. I will give them Butler's resume but not sure why they thought CSU had such a substantially better resume.

My guess is that Mouse McFadden & CSU beat IU & St. Joseph's way back when (1986) in the NCAA Tourney and Valpo beat Ole Miss and Florida State. Also recently CSU beat Wake Forest in the dance in 2009.

I will give them Butler's resume but not sure why they thought CSU had such a substantially better resume. No bad losses, that's why. They did all say that CSU didn't have a good enough resume for an at-large bid. But I would say they have a better resume than Valpo does. Even if we were to win out, our chances for an at-large would be slim to none, I would think -- with slim having gotten off the train already. The problem with CSU is they have no Top 50 wins. We, of course, have one (CSU), but we also have a loss to 185 Ohio and 332 Toledo (face it, we never live that one down in the eyes of the committee). The only team with a realistic chance at an at-large is Butler. If enough happens in other conferences, CSU might have a slight chance at one if they also win out. Obviously the only chance at 3 bids is if Valpo beats CSU in the championship game after CSU topples Butler in the semis, after all 3 teams win out except when they play each other. Slim and none. Slim is still in play, but hanging by a thread.

If...If....if....the only certain thing is to win the tournament....otherwise, the NIT isn't a bad alternative...and i would think we might be in line for that....However, i think we're in this thing to the end...and remember, at this point, everyone has to catch us....it's up the the Crusaders to protect the home court and add to their 4 road wins....and oh by the way, CSU has played almost all of their signifcant games at home....the have not won on the road against West Virginia, Valpo or Butler...until they can do that, they DO NOT have a better resume then Valpo

On the other hand, if we do better on the road than they do (they did beat Milwaukee and Green Bay on the road), I could see that making up for no bad losses.

Mostly they seemed to grouse about how we were spoiling the Horizon League two bid possibilities! And how unexpected we were. As if the #4 pre-season pick is some kind of dark horse to be #1 at the season mid-point.
I did appreciate Damon Lewis turning it around and saying that the picture must look pretty good if you're a Valpo fan. And, nice to have Valpo dominating the conversation for once!
They're doing good work over at victoryfirelight.com. As I told Damon by email the other day, I wish we had a web page at even 1/10 the quality.
(Not that I'm complaining about our horizonleague.blogspot.com, two newspapers w/ blogs, athletics web page, great message board, who knows what's on facebook?, web presence. We do very well. But, we don't quite have a web page in the style of victoryfirelight or what some other teams have.)
