Everybody but Butler has finished half of the round robin.
Valpo's 7-2, with an RPI of 56, and tied with Cleveland State for the lead. Butler and Wright State a game back.
We've got five of the last nine at home.
We'll need to take care of business on the Wisconsin road trip.
But, if we can get through the second half with another7-2 record, for 14-4 overall, I like our chances for a first or second seed. All the more so if we can hang a loss on Cleveland State.
Beating Butler would be very good for the soul. And, I hate to count them out. But, somehow, it feels less important for the conference race. Losing to Butler, and going 7-1 after that (no easy task!) would probably be OK.
That said, it's not so hard to imagine that we go 5-4! (Which would still mean a 20+ win season.)
The injury situation is certainly pretty scary.
Go Valpo!

Some scenarios: ---- 9-0 in the 2nd half will guarantee us the No. 1 seed. ---- 8-1 will probably still get us the No. 1 seed, assuming CSU doesn't run the table. If they do, we would get the number 2 seed. ---- 7-2 opens up several other possible scenarios that I don't want to think about. We still control our own destiny, but the GB loss reduced our margin of error dramatically. It also basically eliminated any chance we mihgt have had for an at-large if we do extremely well in the 2nd half of the conf. season, but lose late in the HL tournament. The only chance we have now is to win the conf. tournament, and the best chance to do that is to host. We will know a lot more about our future after our next 2 games - Butler and CSU. By the way, the kind of loss we suffered against GB with key players missing used to happen to us in our Mid Con glory days, but we could get away with it then. I'm not feeling too good right now about getting past it this time. To win this conference, at a minimum you have to beat the teams you're favored to beat. If you're shorthanded, you still have to find a way, and we didn't. A tough loss to swallow, especially at home.

We could get away with being upset in the Mid-Con with the level of talent we had in that conference. I said, in a different post, that the injuries we've sustained (if they limit playing time) threatedn to make us 7 or 6 deep as opposed to 9. If Harris is done for the year, there are no other scorers in the backcourt to take pressure off Wood. I like Buggs, but more as a defensive player and ball handler. He's not a scorer.

I notice that we and CSU have almost exactly inverted schedules.
We both have Butler at home. But, then, every team that we play on the road, CSU plays at home. And vice versa.
Who do you think has the easier schedule for the second half?
Valpo: Butler @csu @youngstown Detroit Wright State @milwaukee @uwgb Loyola UIC
CSU: @uic @loyola Valpo Butler @detroit YSU @wright State Milwaukee UWGB

i think we do, b/c we still have to go to csu and wisconsin. while detroit and dayton aren't necessarily the easiest places to play, it's cancelled out by going to chicago.
