Cory didn't "disappear"--played half of each game last weekend even though flu-y--as were a couple of others.
Please remember that although our entire team is made up of talented guys, top to bottom, they are not machines. From what I've read on these threads, sometimes expectations and assessments are based on lack of information and don't match reality.
Go Team--

If we host - and worse yet win - look for a push by Butler to change the tourney format, the venue setup, or something else "in the best interest of the league." 2002 here we come... They did that after going 25-6 and being snubbed. They're not going 25-6 this year. Let's hope that we are able to host the tournement and for one year enjoy the double-bye. Then we should lead the outcry for its permanent elllimination. This year it is conceivable that there will be a 3 way tie for the 1 seed with the tiebreakers placing the highest rpi team in the 3 position. With a bracketbuster sweep it is also possible that the next 4 teams enter the tournament with RPIs between 90-130. Even though those 4 teams are rapidly improving, I could not give any of them more than a 4% chance of advancement to the NCAA. I wii repeat what I said last month, the double-bye is a stacked deck. Its implementation required a mind numbing act of brain-dead group-think. The individual who proposed this must have been a real spellbinder, or perhaps the vote occured after dinner and cocktails. Either way I am glad that VU had nothing to with its origin and hope that we lead the fight for its replacement.

It's trite and overused, but it's never been more true that we need to focus on one game at a time in the remaining three weeks. We can lose any game remaining if we're not ready to play. While it may be fun to talk about hosting the tournament, there's a lot of basketball remaining. Stating the obvious, I know, but...

Truth!
Anyone who has played the game at any level knows that every player is influenced by any number of factors & goes thorugh streaks of playing very well .. and not so well.
Let's hope the next couple of weeks we are blessed by watching them play very well.
If it's not, with this group of guys it certainly won't be because of lack of effort or lack of desire.
Go Valpo!

I said it during the YSU game that Cory and Kevin both for the most part seemed to disappear during both the CSU & YSU games. It is hard to say these guys are disappearing. I think a lot of it has to do with the make up of our team and how oppenents guard us. It seems like there has been a little more zone the last couple games which gives guys running the baseline like howard some easy bunnies on the back side - which led to him scoring a little more. The big guys aren't always in a position to score because if they don't get backside layups the next option is the guards trying to shoot them out of the zone - which they should with a team that can shoot like us. Because of this the big guys should be seeing more assists - which I think cory ended with 4 last game. We also play nine deep which makes it harder for guys to be consistant. A team like CSU needs Cole to score every single night because 6 guys have most thier minutes. The great thing is we have several guys that can step up and have big games. Also, they all have patience (esepcially the leading scorers) to not get discouraged if they aren't scoring thier average and just wait for their opportunity to arise. By attacking weaknesses in the defense (with enough weapons at all positions to counter when that changes during the game) rather than just forcing the same thing all game and every night, we make it really difficult to defend. Look for the big guys to step up when they have an advantage down low and start running more plays to them.

I guess I need to clarify my words. When I said that Cory had "disappeared", I wasn't inferring that he was doggin it or playing badly. What I should have said was that he wasn't putting up the numbers and rebounds that he has produced during much of the season.
Now, that could be because of zone defenses, different defensive schemes forged to take him out of the scoring equation, sickness or, just possibly, his having an off night.
Clearly his 3 point shot has not been falling and I don't really see a point in adding that this may be because of bad ankles or whatever, but apparently I need to add that possibility.
Cory works as hard as anybody on the team. We surely wouldn't be where we are without him. Having said that, let me say that, he hasn't scored as much lately as he has in other games this season.

It's really very simple....win out and we are the number one seed....lose one, and beat Wright State and we're the number one seed because of the tiebreakers, even if Cleveland State wins out.... Personally, I'd rather see us win the rest of them.....and host everyone at the ARC.....the Horizon League office would hate that, but it would be great...... Doesn't the regular season champion automatically get an invitation to the NIT if they lose in the conference tournament? Just another reason why we need that No. 1 seed.

Since the NCAA took over the NIT, and seeded it, the regular season champion of every league earns a bid to the NIT. I feel that Valpo, if they were in that situation, would probably get a 5 or 6 seed..they would be better than a few "at larges", and would be seeded higher than conference winners from lesser conferences that didn't win their tourneys.
