This will be interesting to see how Butler hold together without Matt. It will in some regards, give us a peek at Butler next year. I know people respect Matt's game but I really don't think Butler fans (given their affection for the new and coming guys) realized just how much of a loss it will be when he is gone. Kind of like Hayward. Everyone thought they'd be really good, and they still are, just not national championship material. Now that Matt has developed his 3 point shot, I can see him playing in the NBA. Think Brian Cardinal from Purdue, except Matt has the ouitside shot. Especially if Howard can get on the Gene Keady/Purdue bulk up program and add 15-20 pounds.

I've lost track, are we rooting for Butler to win or lose this game? Lose, I think, right? Get well soon, Matt! (Wait, except we want Butler to lose to Detroit?) Ha! I was trying to make a modest joke, but missed. Yes, I agree that, at least by quick analysis we want Butler to win. But, I typoed it on the first line! Should have been "Win, I think, right?" Hence, "Get well soon", etc. Comedy dross, foiled again!

Since WSU is only one game back of us in the loss column, we want Butler to win. We absolutely want Butler to win this game. We don't need Wright State hanging around with just 4 losses.

It would be best if WSU leaves Indiana on Sat. with 2 more losses. That's just one less contender to worry about. That said, it will not be easy for Butler to beat them without Howard. I repeat from awhile back - How did anyone in their right mind predict that a Duggins/Evans led team would finish 6th? If they're not the best guard combo in the HL, they're close. Maybe CSU, but not Butler as it turns out.

I don't think it would be all that bad if WSU beats Butler and then we turn around and beat them on Saturday. That means we beat them twice and have the tie breaker on them. Plus, if they can pull off a win against Cleveland later in the season, that might push cleveland down to the #3 seed. I have seen how dangerous Cleveland can be when they are fresh, so I think it would be good for everyone to see them play two extra games. Also, Butler with an extra loss assures that they will not have a double bye. So the way I look at it, as long as we are confident we can take care of WSU at home....I think it would be good for WSU to win this game. this of course is assuming we finish with no more than 1 loss the rest of the season.

Let me put it another way. I would rather Wright State finish in the top 2 instead of CSU or Butler. Right now, they are the only other team that can can keep both of them out, and as long as we beat them at home, hopefully we won't have to worry about them beating us out for the top spot.

Somewhere in the discussion, it was stated that Matt Howard was a potential NBA player. He will be a great Euro League player. His 3-pt shot is only college level and only when wide open. His post moves will be less effective in the NBA and is not quick. He is not Brian Cardinal. This isn't a knock on him because you can make a very good living overseas, but like Mack there are parts of his game that are not NBA caliber. Terrific mid-major talent, gritty, gutsy, gamer, just not NBA.

I've been pretty critical of Howard over the past couple of years - the flopping, the fouling, too much bench time due to foul trouble, no outside shot, etc. That said, he is having just a great senior year. Almost unbelievably, he has overcome every weakness seemingly overnight and has become one of my favorite non-Crusaders to watch.
