Some of this has already been covered elsewhere. But, 1)We're the G!O!T!N! tonight. www.midmajority.com/p/19212)He plans to be at the ARC Saturday www.midmajority.com/p/19084th Valpo game of the season, 3rd at the ARC? (after the Butler-UIC game! he's aiming for 44 more games before the end of the season) 3)OK, it's not Valo, but Norris Cole was MMBOW #12 (Mid-Major Baller of the Week; Haanpaa got this honor once) www.midmajority.com/p/1908I heard he put up sick numbers, but I hadn't actually seen them! "These are facts: a 6-foot-2 point guard scored 41 points (with 11-for-22 shooting and six threes), grabbed 20 rebounds, and came within a triple-double with nine assists, against a Division I opponent." Only YSU. But, that might be the best line in the country against a D1 this season. #### But, Whelliston just can't quite seem to find it in his heart to love the Crusaders this season. Doesn't see a spark in the team, or something. Can't quite get on the bandwagon. He seems more into Butler, CSU, even Milwaukee. Let's prove him wrong!

Two comments from the links: 1. Whelliston says Valpo was a "cute diversion" 6 weeks ago. 6 weeks ago Valpo was not really even in the conference picture...so not sure what he meant by cute. 2. He plans to go to the Butler-UIC game and then hit the Missouri St. - Valpo game that starts three hours after the first game started? Good luck! I would not bet on the Dan Ryan being so kind.

I think what he means by a "cute diversion" is simply that Valpo was just another feel-good story. If you usually read his site, he historically enjoys coming to Valpo (as evidenced by his coming here multiple times this year). I don't think it was meant in anyway as derogatory, but more so that we WEREN't in the conference picture, so, to some extent, it simply was a diversion. Now it is no longer a diversion from the main story line in HL, but the story in first place. Thus the G!O!T!N! nod. I am fairly certain that to count a game for his 100 Games Project (the last one), he must go to at least half of each game. He is behind his initial schedule due to a slight lack of funding, thus he is trying to squeeze as many games together as possible. My guess is he would stay a little past the half to see that Butler truly was going to be victorious, and leave around 2:15-2:30 to get to Valpo to see the whole game. Saturday afternoon traffic shouldn't be too awful.

I'm not sure how significant the G!O!T!N! nod actually is. Sometimes he picks a big game, but other times it's just a big game for some small conference. Or a quirky game, etc. Not always "the biggest mid-major game of the night" or some such.

Or a quirky game, etc. Not always "the biggest mid-major game of the night" or some such. You are right...sometimes it may be the GOTN because a team has a chance of ending a long losing streak, because there are no good options for a true GOTN (some Mondays). However, most of the time he picks a good game with important implications. Yesterday, the GOTN was from the MVC, between first place Wichita State and upset-minded Evansville. Thus, I feel it is a decent accomplishment to garner the recognition. The least it does is give Valpo a little more publicity, which can't hurt. Other possible games (imo) that could have been chosen tonight: Kent. St (8-2 MAC) vs. Miami OH (8-3) Cleveland St (11-4) vs. Wright St (10-6) Vermont (12-2 1st place AE) vs Maine (8-5, 3rd place) UTEP (19-5, 7-2 C-USA) vs Southern Miss (18-6, 7-4) KW has a big infatuation with the HL, MVC, and MAAC, three of the better mid-major conferences (not including the A-10 and C-USA, which to some extent lack the small college feel). Anyways, being picked over those games is a small accomplishment I feel we should be mildly proud of. Beat Milwaukee!

Based on his funding issues to make it to some of the games he would like to attend, the HL, MVC, and MAC are in most cases his best option because they are very drivable conferences. It's the hotels that are the kicker.

...they are very drivable conferences. Not when you live in Rhode Island they aren't.

I think he didn't make the tip, but I did see him for much of the game up in the "alternate" press row, behind the chairbacks. Bally was in attendance.

I had forgotten! Butler @ UIC was the #ALLCAPSGAME. HE HAD TO STAY FOR THE WHOLE THING! HOW COULD HE LEAVE EARLY? From his twitter feed, twitter.com/midmajority, it sounds like he missed less than ten minutes of game time.

Some selected tweets, go to twitter.com/midmajority for the whole show: Valpo doesn't have much #superhoop power, but plays fantastic defense and pick shots well. Hanging in the HL race longer than ever expected. about 6 hours ago via Twitter for iPad The ARC is totally packed, which is the only way to do it. Feels really empty half full, but it's a great/imposing place at capacity. about 6 hours ago via Twitter for iPad Weems is back in for Mo State. Will Creekmore (former Boston U) +1 for the Bears as they try to stay in this one. Crowd a big factor. about 6 hours ago via Twitter for iPad At first sight, there's nothing about Valpo that screams "NCAA Tournament," but the discipline & opportunism makes them really, really good. about 6 hours ago via Twitter for iPad This is a weird joke, right? RT @dsipocz: @midmajority seems like you don't have much love for Valpo today. We still love you anyway! about 5 hours ago via Twitter for iPhone Valpo'd be a great story if they make the NCAAT, not just because of "The Shot" thing. A team that overachieves b/c of strict fundamentals. about 5 hours ago via Twitter for iPad Well, maybe we're growing on him!

Fair assessments by Kyle. Plain and simple. This team plays as close to their potential as any VU team. The offense is just a joy to watch. lowposter
