... how Butler could still be on the bubble (maybe nobody is, I don't know), here's an interesting and plausible theory: www.ballinisahabit.net/2011/03/thursdays-shootaround-bubble-gets.htmlSt. Louis 69, Dayton 51: You would think that a loss like this -- an 18 point loss to a bad Bilikens team -- would doom a bubble team. This season, that just isn't the case. Dayton hurt their cause with this loss, but they didn't throw it all out the window. Remember, everyone is losing.

After the debacle in Youngstown, Butler's worst loss is to 135 Evansville. They're in, and according to most national pundits a lock if they win tomorrow.

It's just another example of how subjective the selection process is. If some mid major that no one ever heard of was a mirror image of Butler, not only would they not be a lock, they wouldn't even be considered. Don't get me wrong, I hope Butler is a lock. I'm just saying you can't look at numbers alone and try to make sense out of it.

I find it hard to believe "some other" mid major team could go 4-3 in nationally televised games against Louisville, Duke, Xavier, Stanford, Utah, Florida State and Washington State and still be a team "that no one ever heard of". Other than that, your premise is airtight.

The RPI (according to realtimerpi) of the teams they beat: 138, 112, 50, 69.
The RPI of the teams they lost to: 20, 5, 23
I don't see a standout type of win against a big named program. Definitely some solid wins, but not the type that should earn them an at-large bid. The best win they have RPI-wise is CSU. It's all reputation at this point for them.

Butler can have an at large if that means we beat them at Hinkle on Tuesday.

FWIW, I don't think Butler is anywhere close to being a "lock", but do think they've done enough to get in if they win tonight and don't get blown out on Tuesday. The point I was trying to make before is that Butler isn't "some team no one has heard of" because they've gone and scheduled teams like Duke, Louisville and Xavier. Butler has scheduled that way to get recognition and to give themselves a chance to build an at large resume. Maybe that's unfair ... I don't know. And I'll agree with mj and his numbers. Butler didn't secure anything with their non-con performance. The only plus is that they did schedule quality teams and beat a few of them ... the committee seems to give some benefit to those teams. With that said, I'll follow wh's orders and take my remaining thoughts elsewhere (won't be the Butler board). I used to enjoy the discussion over here, but it now seems disagreeing with certain people doesn't go over so well. The guys on the Milwaukee board are knowledgable and good sports ... I'd encourage anyone looking for some open debate to head over there for a visit. Good luck tonight! Would love to see an all-Indiana final on Tuesday!
