Let's just hope he continues to recruit the Ohio kids as that will help turn this program around. Hopefully this is a good hire because he has a lot of obstacles to overcome here at VU.

Let's hold off the party till it is official.
He sounds like a good choice as he is a Concordia River Forest grad, has ties and history in Indiana and, most importantly, is a very successful coach.
Hopefully the news conference is SOON!!

I agree with everyone that i am glad they brought in new blood, and that this guy seems to be successfull. I am very happy has a football alumni to hear they are bringing in someone successfull who was a head coach at a higher than high school division. This shows at least we care. I will be surprised if they release the names of the other final canidates. He needs our support in big ways right now...

Valparaiso University selects Dale Carlson to head football program nwitimes.com/sports/college/article_27546770-1e0a-597a-8f01-83bbe83d15f2.html BY PAUL OREN - Times Correspondent | Posted: Friday, January 15, 2010 12:10 am Last season's NAIA Independent Coach of the Year led Ohio Dominican to 7-3 record VALPARAISO | Dale Carlson will be named the new head coach of the Valparaiso football program this afternoon. VU director of athletics Mark LaBarbera confirmed the hire on Thursday evening and noted that he would have more to say at a news conference this afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center. Carlson resigned as head coach of Ohio Dominican on Thursday, according to a Panthers assistant coach. Carlson was named the 2009 NAIA Independent Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 7-3 record for the second consecutive season. Carlson took over as coach of the Panthers in 2004 and went 0-10 in his first season, before improving to 3-7 in 2005 and 7-3 in 2006, when Ohio Dominican finished the season ranked 17th in the NAIA national poll. In 2007, the Panthers went undefeated in the regular season and knocked off The Cumberlands in the NAIA playoffs before falling in the quarterfinals to finish 12-1 and No. 6 in the final NAIA poll. Carlson came to Ohio Dominican after a nine-year stint at Tri-State University in Angola, Ind., in addition to head coaching positions at Taylor University (Upland) and Lakeland College (Sheboygan, Wis.). In all, Carlson has 26 years of coaching experience on the collegiate level. Carlson spent six years at Ohio Dominican, where he built a prolific offensive attack that utilized the spread offense and had a record of 36-27. In 2007, the Panthers were tops in all of college football with an average of 50 points per game and led the NAIA with 557.5 yards of total offense per game. Carlson will become the 16th head coach in Valparaiso history as he succeeds Stacy Adams, who resigned on Nov. 29. Adams went 15-40 in five seasons as the head coach with the Crusaders. When Carlson was the coach at Tri-State, he coached in two games against the Crusaders. In 1998, Tri-State knocked off Valparaiso 20-17, but the Crusaders gained a measure of revenge in the 2000 season opener, winning 32-12.
