Well, here is my 2 cents worth, as the parent of a potential recruit. I talked with Coach Carlson for a while yesterday and came away with the belief that he will make good things happen. As stated above, he of course knows it won't be easy and will take a lot of hard work from players, his staff and himself. So my guess is that players who haven't seen much action and now see a much harder work ethic may be bailing. I think Valpo got a good one. I'll also bet that it took a while to get his hiring wrapped up because he had to make sure he had the committment he needed from the school to get it done. But now that he has it he will be charging forward. He is bringing in his first group of recruits this weekend.

Perhaps your boy will wear a PFL championship ring (do they get rings?) before his playing days are done - hopefully at Valpo!

I can't wait until the Fall! I'm so excited to see what Coach Carlson can bring to the table. Finally a coach with an actual winning record! I am sad to hear that Coach Bernardi is leaving. He was a great coach. The defense kept us in most games but the offense just couldn't put points on the board. I hope the current athletes understand how big of an opportunity this is. They can be the players to turn the porgram around. Thats huge. I hope they put the necessary work in and follow Coach Carlson's lead. And yes...they do get rings.

Ran across this info on Coach Carlson in the Post-Trib. Sounds like a hectic time for him and his offensive coordinator, trying to get his program up and running! Football New Valparaiso University coach Dale Carlson has hit the ground running. "One hundred and fifty miles an hour with a few train wrecks along the way," he joked. Over the last two weeks, Carlson's schedule has included introducing himself on campus, meeting with recruits, setting up a strength program and developing a new coaching staff. While his wife is trying to sell the former Ohio Dominican coach's home in Columbus, Ohio, which is no easy task in a struggling economy, Carlson and offensive coordinator Bob Muckian are sharing an apartment. Muckian, a 1997 VU grad, followed him from Ohio Dominican to become Carlson's first hire. "It's been hectic, but the transition is going as smoothly as possible, Carlson said.
