With the loss to Loyola today,VU ends the season 10-6 in HL play. That 4th. place finish probably pits us against CSU in the 1st round of the HL tournament. Ouch! A 20+ win season is a plus, but 10-6 in HL play is disappointing.

The 20+ win season is misleading based on a pre-season schedule that was much too easy to prepare the team for Horizon League play.

The 20+ win season is misleading based on a pre-season schedule that was much too easy to prepare the team for Horizon League play. We were also a younger team this season, so you don't want to put so much youth up against Penn State, Illinois, Stanford quality programs, or they'll never get that idea of how to get out of funks or get over mistakes made in matches. We didn't have the Angie Porsches, Val Bollenbachers, and Kim Bukowskis, among various others over the past decade. Some of this preseason schedule was also tourney play, not just random games scheduled to get some matches in. The team did need a stronger tournament to get into, I'll agree, but with the amount of youth we have this season, it was more the need for experience than 3-game annihilations in tourneys with much better teams.

Your point is a valid one as we had 4 seniors out of 17 players on the roster. You should know however that one of those 4 was Val Bollenbacher who was injured last year and received a redshirt for this year.

I honestly forgot about the Bollenbacher injury from last season, plus I hadn't really done as much following of volleyball this season, as I did the last decade.

How is a lineup consisting of a 5th year senior, 3 seniors and 3 juniors plus an experienced libero considered a young team? While there were lots of new frosh faces, you don't usually expect to see them on the court during their first season.

Congratulations to Taylor Root for being named the HL defensive POY. So I propose that our VB mantra be: Let's Root,Root for the home team. Go Valpo!

I'll admit, I chuckled at jj's comment about Taylor Root's recognition.

They defeated Green Bay to advance to the semi finals today.....but it's against Milwaukee so it will be a tough test. Best of luck to the volleyball team!

Currently, we're 4 points away from sweeping UW-Milwaukee, 3-0. It's tied at 21 in the 3rd set.

The shocker is that we were the 4th seed, and just topped the #1 seed. They'll play either Butler or Cleveland St. for the auto bid to the NCAA tourney.

What a great performance! And this, with Coach Avery about to puke the entire match (flu symptoms)

what surprised me the most was the 25-7 score of the first set. i 'watched' through gamecenter and it looked liked we just completely dominated in the first set. the 2nd and 3rd were much more competitive.

Way to go. Hopefully we'll meet Butler in the finals. Go Valpo! On another note,Pulitzer Prize winning author Taylor Branch thinks he is related to Taylor Root. They both must come from the same family tree.
