Wasn't sure how to title this one but here's my point: Is there ANY team in the country, save Hawaii, who covers as much territory as Valpo? This year we visited California and North Carolina plus Kentucky, Ohio and Illinois. Next year we go to New York and Florida among other spots. I looked at the U of Minnesota as a comparison and found that they played in Tennessee, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan and Illinois for away games. Not sure if this is a good thing or bad. Coach Carlson is using it as a recruiting tool and is recruiting nationally. I suppose if you are talking to athletes at our level and say that if you decide to go to (pick a D2 or D3 school) you will be traveling by bus for every game and not a very far ride at that. If you come to Valpo, twice during your four years you'll get to play in Florida, California, New York and North Carolina. Is it a good thing?? I'm guessing yes. I'll be meeting with one of the Valpo asst. coaches soon here in Minneapolis. I'll pose the question and let you know his feelings on the subject.

Seriously, PFL coaches sell the travel as a positive. Take a look at this Drake recruiting brochure. Is that map illustrating the range of the latest ICBM? No. That's Drake bragging about where they'll send you if you join the football team...and :ahem: pay a bit of tuition. The pictures show guys wading on the beach, flexing next to the Rocky statute...it's not just a job, it's an adventure!

I think its a plus, it provides a lot of exposure to different parrts of the country for these boys. It allows them to hopefully build connections as well. Anything is good to build or fball program i think!

With national exposure people may see our new mascot. That would be unfortunate.
