Where are the regionals being held for VHS's class? Which opponent from the eastern part of northern Indiana will be the toughest assuming they make it that far? Would that be the regional game or do they travel farther south since the new class system? I haven't been following HS hoops since 94 so I don't know. I might make the trip to Indy if they make it that far and would have room in the van for a few more travelers if anyone needs a ride. Details about whether or not to stay at a Motel, etc. can be worked out. Let me know if anyone is interested. Send me a pm so you don't have to embarrass yourself publicly with the knowledge you might be traveling with me.

Rick, the regional is still two games in one day. Valpo plays LaPorte on Saturday morning at Michigan City, followed by EC Central vs. Penn. The winners play for the title at 7:30.
Valpo should beat LaPorte, but it will be a tough battle in the night game no matter what.
Then, there's a one game semistate. There's a North and South semistates, so basically if you win a regional you're in the final four. No. 2-ranked Anderson was beaten by Muncie Central in the sectional, so the most likely scenario is for Muncie Central to win their regional and play Valpo in the semistate.
That's when it gets tricky. The IHSAA now assigns semistates based on travel. Valpo will be sent either to Lafayette or Kokomo. Last time, it was Lafayette. Then there are four state championship games on March 25. And I think we all know which team is going to win the 4A title. But it would be fun to get there and see how our boys match up with the best team in the country.
I think I'd rather see the Pacers try to beat Lawrence North.
Go to ihsaa.org to check out all the scenarios.

The championship game is schedule for 8:00 pm instead of 7:30. Not sure why, but that's what my schedule says

I originally saw 8 p.m. also. The morning game is supposed to be at 9:30, I think, according to the IHSAA web site. But then The Times has 7:30 for the final. I don't know if you can believe anything in there.

On the IHSAA website, the game is listed at both 7:30 and 8:00 pm depending on which page you look at. I'm trying to find out from Michigan City.

I have confirmed with the IHSAA and with Michigan City high school...the morning game is at 10:00 am and the championship game has been changed to 7:30 pm because Penn is in the eastern time zone. Interesting if they don't make the championship game....Valpo games can be heard on WVLP, 98.3 ...or on valposports.com (crash commercialism)

rih (or anyone else):
Can you post the scores of the regional games when you get them for those of us who can't get local radio? If you could post all classes, that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Interesting if they don't make the championship game....Valpo games can be heard on WVLP, 98.3 ...or on valposports.com (crash commercialism) Don't take this personally rlh but I'd like to give you some feedback. I listened back-and-forth between 98.3 and 95.9 and these are my observations: 1. The guy with the muffled voice did the lead on 95.9 and while there was some improvement in his clarity, he still was somewhat difficult to understand. He did only a few commercials while I was listening and they seemed a little more clear than the last time I listened to him during which I could not make out anything he was saying and couldn't hear the name of the company he was advertising. 2. While listening to your broadcast, in clear contrast to the other broadcast, the background noise on your station was very loud and it was annoying and interfered with your comments and was very distracting because one often had to listen very closely to hear what you were saying. The other broadcast did a more than sufficient job of muffling out the background noise. 3. I liked that fact that your advertisements did not seem to occur incessantly but at appropriate times during timeouts, etc. The other station seems to be reading those commercials all the time and they seem to even try and squeeze them in during the action. That's very annoying. 4. Ryan prefers listening to your team.(the dynamic duo) He really cracks up a lot because he knows you. And he just rolls on the floor with laughter when listening to Paul. Nothing personal. I think he is often very sensitive to the way some people say what they say and finds listening to Paul amusing. It's a good thing. Again, nothing personal, just some observations.

Penn's good.
But everyone is playing for second place in 4A anyway.

Thank you for the observations. Not sure why the background noise problem, but I'll listen to the tape and see if I can figure it out. I'll pass along Ryan's observations to Paul. I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

Listening to the game last night, it didn't seem like there was much of a support cast for VHS. So unlike the fairly well balanced team in 94. Those other guys couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. And Hummel wasn't that impressive either.
What kind of support will these guys be getting next year? Any potential sleepers who might step up or is it going to be all Martin/Hummel as it seems it was this year?

Three guys are key for next year's team - Marcus Biggs, Nate Windsor and Kevin Meyne. They each need to work their asses off until next season if they want to be able to get past the regional and make a run for Indy. Hummel knows he needs to step up his scoring. Biggs will be the point guard. They all need to shoot about 500 3-pointers a day until next season, so teams can't sit back and say - OK, one of you other guys can try to beat us from outside.
I have another solution - recruit Mike Bizoukas from Munster and Zack Novak from Chesterton. THEN I'd put money on Valpo winning state.
