That depends on what you mean by "gun." When I was in the Army if we called our weapon a gun we had to hold our weapon over our head with one hand and point with the other hand to two places, one to the weapon, the other to the crotch area and say: "This is my weapon, this is my gun, this is for killing, this is for fun." ;D

Speaking of the Army, when I was in basic training at Fort Benning Georgia in 1968 as a sixteen-year-old,(lied about my age to get into the Army) when we had certain training classes inside a building, we would all be standing at attention in front of our seats and couldn't sit down until the sarge said "Ready Seats!!" To which we were to all say in unison before sitting down: "We're rough, we're tough, we've got the stuff! We're heart breakers and baby makers, we're the bad asses from Echo Company." Then we sat down and listened to the instruction of how to do target detection in the jungles of Vietnam or whatever else training was for that day.

You must have enjoyed Full Metal Jacket... I haven't seen that movie. Did they say what I just said? Why do you think I would like it?

okay: weapons are dumb in the hands of civilians. (hopefully my elaboration helps) Guns are living organs; weapons are cold steel and stock. One can be "stupid"; the other is only a tool that a stupid person can abuse.

Edit: it is unnecessary for civilians to have guns. (is this better?)

Edit: it is unnecessary for civilians to have guns. (is this better?) Not according to the Constitution of the United States.

Edit: it is unnecessary for civilians to have guns. (is this better?) As long as you have non-law abiding citizens, there is no problem with citizens having guns...IMO

I don't usually like to watch Army movies especially after that stupid movie with Marlon Brando which was so unrealistic it's inane. Hollywood doesn't have a clue what war is like.

that was written a long time ago. there is no longer a need for "militias" like there was in the time of our country's infancy and instability. " A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." That statement is no longer accurate...
