Well, as much as I don't like Kone's offensive woes, I think his lack defensive presence inside was the main reason for the loss last night. Guys were getting inside and scoring easily, which they haven't done with Kone in the game.
It's really low getting the news he can't play on the bus to the game as it makes it nearly impossible to make the huge required defensive adjustments when you lose someone of his presence (How else does CSU score 90?); but you have to roll with the punches. Hopefully he'll be back soon, and we can start dominating again.
Here's my bold prediction; barring more injuries, we win every game Kone plays in at least until the Bracket Buster.

The loss of Shawn and Jimmie combined with Kone really put us at a big disadvantage.
Let's hope Jimmie gets back halth as his speed and added depth really help. Kone is a very big difference maker. Can't wait for next yeat when Moussa can dominate also!!

vu72-- I hate to break it to you, but Moussa's knees will never allow him to "dominate" in any sense of the word. He looked really bad last night (on one putback attempt, he threw it so hard off the glass, it didn't even come close to the rim). It was a shame to see his play as poorly as he did last night because the main cause of his poor play are his knee problems.

After last night, I'll try to refrain from saying anything negative about Big Mo again. He was sorely missed, even though the guys looked pretty lathargic. That would never have happened if we had a full, healthy squad. I'm still amazed by the lack of simple boxing out on defense. I can't believe that Homer and Vujic don't demand to see bodies fly when the shot goes up.

Hey - I'm in on the new board. Just want to see what the post looks like.
Has anyone mentioned, in all of the talk about not having Kone, Huff or Miles, that Dan Oppland didn't have his usual game last night? If he had gotten off to a better start, I think he would have been into the game better and the loss may not have happened. That seems to be a key to this team - when Dan gets off to a good start, the rest of the team follows suit. Has to be a confidence thing.

Ali did not block out his guy who stole it from him and then Ali looked at the ref as if to say, "he stole that from me, no fair!" No hustle. They wanted it much more than we did. How is that they can play such Jeckyl/Hyde defense?

I agree that it wasn't only the absence of the trio that led to last night's emabarrassment. If the rest of the team could play no better than what we saw last night, it woud be painful to watch them the rest of the season. The only saving grace was seeing Seth hit his shots even when the rest of the squad was choking.
Is there any update on Mo's status?

From what it sounds like, Kone did not make the trip to Southern Utah. Not a good situation. In one of the last Voy.com posts, people were making comparisons to the '01-'02 team in which that team lost to Belmont and didn't have any elgibility issues. That's actually a mistake. Falu didn't play against Belmont or Indiana State and while it wasn't an elgibility issue (he was a wack job) it was still a disruption similar to the Kone situation.

Didn't Zoran or Ratis have to sit out a few games for something and then it was announced there was nothing wrong?

Zoran had an eligibility issue and missed 1 or 2 games. And if I recall correctly, he missed a game at Chicago State.
I heard tonight that Kone isn't playing Saturday. No NCAA ruling yet though.

I heard tonight that Kone isn't playing Saturday. No NCAA ruling yet though. It'd be nice if they had gotten off their butts and figured this thing out before our next game. Is the issue simply that Kone didn't pay for his own flight to go to Valpo for classes? Does anyone know how similar past cases have turned out?

You can rest assured that no one in the Athletics Dept was "sitting on their butts today." Everyone involved understands how important Mo is to this team and I would be willing to bet my life savings (as small as it may be) that Homer, Jen, Mark, and anyone else involved tried everything in their power to resolve this today.

Kone did not make the trip here to Southern Utah. They are hoping to have a ruling by midweek....and yes, we did have this type of thing with Zoran before...he missed almost 2 weeks, I think 3 games, with a question over his transferring from a junior college. Why these things can't be taken care of at the time of the transfer, when the NCAA approves them is beyond me.....why wait till now...if there was a question, wouldn't it make sense that it would come up at the time of the transfer and the granting of eligibity....?

As I read that Mo will be sitting out another game, I started wondering again about the person or entity that made the accusation. Is this something that was done with malice? At this point it has cost us our first place position in a highly contested conference race. We hope that the team will pull together enough to beat So. Utah tonight, but... If the accusation is discovered to be groundless, is there any penalty to be paid by the accuser? As rlh noted, this is not the first time that Valpo has suffered from an inquiry. Does Valpo lose a player any time someone raises a question? I presume that this emerged from an accusation. Maybe it was part of a normal NCAA review. Does anyone have that info?
