Maybe if we got brown "short" shorts like basketball players wore before the knee length shorts came into vogue and always wore them in "UPS" brown and our mascot entered with a sword, shield, package under his arm and clipboard/computer signature collector clipped to his belt it would all work. :-) :dance You could have Coach Drew draw up plays on a whiteboard that suddenly became animated or took on animated characteristics.

The lifelines may not be immediately recognizable, but students applying to Valpo will see those on nearly every piece of literature they receive, it's on the website, it's on most campus publications, it's on all the banners on the light poles on campus, and it will be a major feature on our national television spot set to air later this year. In a year or two, most students should come to see those as distinctly Valpo, but it takes time to take effect. Hey okinawatyphoon. First, THANKS for all the time and effort you spend updating us, taking campus photos, etc. I really appreciate the time you spend on that. In your post you mentioned a national tv spot to air later this year. Can you elaborate any on that subject? When might the ads run, what channels, that sort of thing....? Any insights would be helpful. Also, sounds like the enrollment numbers I read about this week (850 incoming freshmen and transfers) puts us on the way to the larger enrollment desired? How will housing be handled? My guess was juniors and seniors would be allowed to live off-campus instead of just seniors as was the policy in the past. That would free up space for larger freshman and sophomore enrollments. Sure sounds like some interesting changes coming Valpo's way in a lot of different areas..be it larger enrollment, new buildings, enhanced athletic facilities, etc. I will say it will be nice when Brown Field gets the long awaited track installed someday, and the issue of renovating the ARC or building new are addressed. I look at the whole ARC issue (renovate or build new) as something necessary after stepping up to the Horizon League in so many sports. A 60-second television spot will be airing on tv when VU is playing on national tv (ESPN for example), as well as at movie theaters throughout the midwest. I'm not sure when it will begin airing, but it has been developed. I won't comment on the content just yet though. As for the accent color on the uniforms, I don't really think it will be a big deal. With that logic, I'll just assume that most people thought our school colors were black and yellow since most of our teams had those colors (specifically men's basketball). That still didn't change the fact that our colors were actually brown and gold. I'll think you'll notice that the gold has been brightened from the previous color and the brown has been made richer. As far as housing, I've heard of no concrete plans to address the availability, but if they really intend on increasing enrollment, a new residence hall (or a relaxed housing policy - allowing juniors to live off campus) is inevitable.

This would just be an extension of existing policy, anyhow, right?
Haven't they always (say, for the last 10-15 years?) allowed a certain number of juniors to live off campus? Maybe it's on a request basis, and if too many asked (too many to keep the dorms full) they might say no?

The official policy (as far as I know) has always been that you must have senior standing to live off campus. I have not heard of the policy allowing a "certain number" of juniors to live off campus, but would not be surprised if it happened. The dorms are quite full this Fall from what I've heard.

Could well be - it's an old memory. I likely did have senior standing before moving off campus. But, I'm not sure everyone in my apartment did. Maybe you were allowed to bring a younger friend, or some such?

That's exactly how I feel. Snazzy shield, tacky font.
I'm not a fan of the new crusader. The fact that you can't see his face makes him seem impersonal.....lacking in personality. I know they're trying to make him "broader" but I like having a mascot that is character-like.
