This will be a difficult game for every Horizon League team - I fear we all underestimated Loyola greatly.

Before we psych ourselves out of this game remember: Loyola was 9-1 out of conference last year at the time we made the Chicago swing, 12-6 overall, and had just played Butler to a tragic one point loss.
Valpo was 9-11 overall, had just played UIC in a sloppy, underachieving win, and had NEVER beaten LU in the Gentile center. Valpo played a great game and won 86-67 in one of their better performances of the season. It was also Rowdy's coming out party so to speak with his 6 threes.
Here's hoping for a repeat of history!

I was at that game as well. Thanks for reminding us, govalpogo!

The keys to this game (which has already started, oops) are not getting outrebounded by too much, nad not getting out to a huge deficit again (the second part is working well already)

Is it me, or has anyone else noticed who is watching on TV that the clock operator is really slow on the trigger today? I just counted 5 seconds ran off the clock after the ball went out of bounds with 1:32 left (should have been 1:37). Maybe it's related to the shot clock issues.

And it's a Chicago sweep for the Valparaiso Crusaders!

When did we become a defensive team? Cool..... Speaking of which, how about BW? He is quickly becoming a lockdown perimeter defender. He played a very good all around game today!

And if we had played a decent first half in Ohio we could be 6-1!! Finally a 40 minute effort and a great DEFENSIVE game. Anybody want to play Valpo now?? Where is milanmiracle? Funny how the naysayers vanish when things are going well!
Great effort by the team and we won the boards inspite of turning the ball over way to much. Let's hope we can put together a great effort Tuesday in front of a record crowd!!

I will check it out if the Horizon League has the archive. I saw about 5 minutes online right before half...not enough to comment or make a judgement.

A few random thoughts about today's game, in no particular order. This is the first I have seen VU since the HL playoff game vs Detroit last spring. This is am improved team. It should be, as there is a load of talent returning. The additions of Eric Buggs, Kevin Van Wijk, and Jay Harris have helped. Depth is really a factor for this team now. Buggs, even with limited offensive effectiveness, might be the key to this team's success this year. Gotta get rid of the hand checking fouls 40 feet from the basket tho. His free throw shooting ability is going to be a liability down the stretch in close games. Can I just say that Howard Little is now on the radar for my favorite VU player in history? He is probably not going to replace Bill/Bob Jenkins, but that young man certainly knows how to contribute to a team. He is an all around solid player. How about that little inbounds play/reverse layup by Cory? Sweet. This team has considerable offensive weapons for the HL and mid-major competition and should be fun to watch. Do they have enough defensive and rebound firepower? Kier Rogers, former Michigan City and Loyola hoopster, looked great. I always felt he would have been a great VU player. Somewhat off the VU topic, but related to basketball...if you have the chance, go see Glen Robinson III in the next two years. As a junior, he is a joy to watch. Very skilled. He simply takes care of business on the basketball court. Lots of good talent in the area high schools this year. It should be another banner year for the Region. lowposter
