Well I think we all knew that this game was going to be very difficult, but I think after the egg CSU laid tonight it's going to be even more difficult. Cleveland State is going to be very hungry to not leave Indiana 0-2. I think that we are going to need a big game from Buggs and Harris on Sunday. Not necessarily in the scoring column, but we need them to be able to take care of the ball against the tough CSU backcourt. Buggs and Harris combined for 7 TOs tonight against YSU, they are going to need to do much better than that against CSU if they expect to win.

This game makes me very, very nervous. Cleveland State got their a** handed to them last night and that certainly doesn't help Valpo's cause for this weekend. I'd love for VU to win this one as it would go a long way in establishing an identity. Plus it would help convince the players they don't have to poo down their leg when they play a team that on paper should be better than they are. I'd still like to see them do that against a BCS school, but Cleveland Stat 15-2 is still better than VU even after the Butler a** kicking. A win here could help with the direction of the season.

Well, we all know that since Butler beat CSU by 23 and that Butler beat Valpo by 17 that the point differential will be six in Valpo's favor. Why should Valpo be scared of Cleveland State? ? It's Milwaukee I don't want to see Valpo play at Milwaukee. Oh Boy! :-)

It's Milwaukee I don't want to see Valpo play at Milwaukee. Oh Boy! :-) As mentioned guard play will be extremely important against Cleveland but Valpo is competitive against each and every team in the HL. No way should Valpo be intimidated against a team in our own league. It's more of getting full effort for a full 40 minutes and playing a more complete game. I think we can expect that from Coach Waters and the Vikings.

Hope springs eternal right now for 5 one-loss teams - Butler, CSU, WSU, Detroit and Valpo. This game is an absolute must-win, if we hope to get one of the top 2 seeds.

Predictably, CSU is leading the conf. in fouls committed called at 25/game. Win or lose, they have out fouled all 5 conf. opponents to date, including 25-30-25-24-21. They are the 14 highest fouling team in D-1 basketball for conf. games played. In contrast, we commit 17 fouls/game. I'm guessing that the reason they committed "only" 21 against Butler is because Butler broke their will and they gave up. Oh, they've also had 7 foul-outs in 5 conf. games. The next highest by another conf team is 2 (we have 1). That said, we are going to have to be prepared for our offensive flow to be constantly disrupted by hacks, extended knees, reach-ins, chest bumps, pushing and shoving. On defense, we need to be ready for more extended knees and legs on screens and over-the-backs when they crash the offensive glass. Such is the Gary Waters game plan. We will need to hit our free throws and not get frustrated by all the uncalled fouls they will also commit. One thing in our favor - most HL officials seem to be on to the Gary Waters "foul so much they can't possibly call them all" strategy. Their fouls/game are a lot higher in conf. than non-conf.

With WSU and Detroit both winning today, our next 3 opponents all have 4-1 conference records. A meat grinder stretch to be sure, but very exciting at the same time.

Kyle Whelliston, from midmajority.com, is going to be at the game today, according to his "next stop" on his site. He is in the midst of a 5-game, 4 day Horizon League trip.

Pomeroy's computer has CSU... by one point.
The Vegas line seems to have Valpo (I'm never 100% sure how to read those things)... by one point.
We've talked about CSU's strength of schedule. Not horrible, but very mid-dominated. What's their best win... maybe Iona? Kent State? Akron? You could argue that beating Valpo would be among their best of the season.
But, I hadn't noticed this earlier: 10 of CSU's 15 wins have been at home. Who have they beat on the road? Milwaukee might be about the best of the lot.
Long story short - I'm still not sure what this CSU team is made of. They've not been tested very thoroughly.
Here's hoping for a good game tonight, and that CSU comes up short.
Good of them to put it at a convenient hour! If the kids get to bed promptly it should be about ideal.

I'm worried about CSU coming in fired up as well. We need to take control of the game in the first 5 minutes. We need a good game on the boards and at the FT line.
VU - 70 CSU - 68
