As weak as it sounds, they actually appear to be crapping themselves a little less each time at the end of games. Hopefully they'll figure out how to really put a team away this week on the road. As someone else mentioned, our problem closing out games seems more to do with trying to take the air out of the ball than anything else. For 36 minutes we put points on the board through constant motion with multiple passes, picks and screens, looking for cutters, etc. We simply don't have the personnel to sit on the ball for 25 seconds and then put it in the hands of a clever ball handling scoring guard out front to break down the defense by himself. Short of Derek Rose quitting the Bulls to come play for the Crusaders, we'd better keep running our normal offense.

Given a second chance, I think the NCAA might be able to rule Rose ineligible before he plays this time.

Pretty good stuff in today's post-game press conference. I had to split it in two again due to length. Enjoy.

One thing that I feel really helped Valpo in this game with CSU is that the refs seemed to call every foul against the Vikings that they committed and no exception was given to Coach Waters team because he tried to persuade the refs into calling fewer fouls. It was interesting that Johnson was the guy to foul out.

With the win today, Valpo has an NIT-worthy profile (This, of course, is a fluid thing and still very much dependent upon future results). Didn't there used to be an NITology web site? I can't seem to find it...

Like I said after the Oakland game, why was Buggs in for as long as he was in that end of the game situation?! He simply cannot make free throws. I love the way Erik plays and think he's a great part of this team, but the last place he needs to be is on the court in the last couple of minutes of a close game. This was definitely on my mind watching the game, and I thought Homer _did_ sub him out for Jay Harris once or twice down the stretch, no? I remember thinking, one time when Buggs got left out there and fouled, that he was sort of "stuck" due to an unexpected chain of events.

3. I saw Kyle, but didnt know it was him...the suit and sneakers tipped me off, but i didnt know about his attire until after getting back. Bally wasnt there,...perhaps under the weather, or under the table. Maybe he only comes out for photo opps? He was definitely in the house.

I believe Homer did this as often as he had the opportunity to. Trust me, he knows.

Previous best RPI win of the last six years?
I'd think it would have to be Oakland this year ... or Washington in the first round of the 2008 College Basketball Invitational.

Dylan, you of all people should know...
Our win over your Panthers in 2004 was the previous best according to a source of mine.

Huh!
December 11, 2004? Looks like Valpo and Milwaukee had a home-and-home going for a while there, one game per year. That game was at Valpo, and Valpo edged them 72-71. Valpo's first win of the season. They went on to finish 15-16, exiting to Chicago State (ouch!) in the first round of the Mid-Con tournament.
Milwaukee went on to a 26-6 season (14-2 in the Horizon League). Won the league, won the league tournament. Took a 12 seed to the Sweet Sixteen, beating Alabama and Boston College before falling to 1 seed (and eventual national runner-up) Illinois.
So, what was Milwaukee's RPI?
Update: One site mentions 58. But that looks like Milwaukee's RPI at the _end_ of the season. Going into the Valpo game they were 6-0 (5-0 against D1 competition; or even 4-0? Did South Dakota State count as D1?).
When Valpo went to the Sweet 16 they went through Mississippi and Florida State, before falling to Rhode Island. Those teams ended the season at RPI 12, 39, and 22 respectively. Valpo ended a mere RPI 83 (23-10; 13-3 in the MidCon).

Maybe he [Bally, of course!] only comes out for photo opps? He was definitely in the house. Speaking of photo opps: Something tells me Mark is still a little new to this whole twitter thing, but great to see him posting twitpics! twitpic.com/3otipnWho's the Valpo fan?
