VU should get to a point with this recruiting class that a little higher caliber of player should be available. Nothing against the players on the team now...absolutely nothing, but...consider that our two leading scorers are transfers into the program and another player coming in next year is transferring. Wouldnt it be nice to pickup a Brandon Wood right out of Kokomo HS? Granted, he made the decision to go elsewhere and ended up here and arent we all glad that he did? But, with Cory Johnson transfers are a mixed bag. You get the player, but the transition time, plus using one year of scholarship is tough. Jay Harris is a great example of a young man that from all appearances will be a great fit for this program. At times he struggles, but he is going to be a fantastic HL performer, particularly as he matures (physically) and develops a feel for the college game. Matt Kenney - ditto. Excellent recruit that has made incredible contributions from day one. Ryan Broekhauf - do I say more? Granted, there are going to be situations where it just doesnt work out, but with the success that we are having this year, the recruiting should take a strong step forward. I strongly believe the strength and foundation of this program has been getting outstanding young men into the system and allowing them to develop, meet the academic challenges, and then move on to be productive members of society. It will be difficult to compete with an Illinois or a Michigan (if they offer), but there are certain advantages to being at VU and in the HL. Recruiting...what a fascinating aspect to the game. lowposter I understand your concern about transfers and preference for 4 year guys, but, in most cases, (Jake Diebler, Brandon McPherson, Urule Igbavboa, to name a few) freshman are freshman and aren't ready to contribute. Guys like Cory and Brandon and Kevin, come in a year or two older and with great experience. they are proven comodities. They can take you to championships. Sure it was great to get a Broekhoff and kenney out of high school, but at our level, we will generally be taking chances with high schoolers while guys looking for playing time (like Boggs) were major school talents that didn't work out where they started.

I understand what you are saying. The transfers and Kevin (as an older player) are bringing in a level of physical maturity which is advanced, not to say their game experiences. Where I am going is that with the level of success this year, coupled with the Butler run last year (which has upgraded the entire conference) should make the recruitment of a higher level of player possible. Dave Redmon and Casey Schmidt gave VU credibility back in the early 90's with their transfer in. It allowed VU to compete in the MidCon and set the table for a great run. I maintain that Cory and Brandon are at that same level for the program, allowing a certain level of athletes to consider VU. Recall if you will the Smith twins and the Jenkins twins...and the difference in the level of athletes. lowposter

So Bielein's recruiting strategy is to watch who we are recruiting and then jump in at the last minute. (For stl--sarcasm clearly intended).

Unfortunately, Belein didn't "steal" Novak....we refused to offer his a scholarship when he asked for one....after offering when he was a sophomore, then changing our mind. it happens....

Speaking of offering and recinding...has anyone seen what Stolarz of Munster has done this year? Not saying that he is a bonafide D1 talent, but this kid is a load, and is having a very good year. Novak...what a shame for VU, but it certainly worked well for him and Michigan.

Stolarz hurt his knee his junior year and VU dropped his scholarship for some reason. I just sent you the private reply lowposter on accident. I'm new to this forum

Did anyone hear about this Dino Jakolis kid we just signed? He seems decent, but Brandon Grubl from Morgan Township is the one we should pursue if Adonis Filer doesn't take our offer.
