Rob Cavanaugh was surprised toward the end of last nights game that Detroit didn't take some opportunities to foul Buggs. Every team that we play has got to know that the free throw is his liability, there certainly is no secret stat sheet that I know of.

Basically, I think the other teams are looking at it from a different perspective: If they start fouling Buggs, he comes off the floor and Harris comes in...another offensive player. By trying to play defense, knowing Buggs can't score, they are taking the chance that they can either get him to shoot, or get a stop.
They either try to play defense (we score 1.066ish points per possession - from the boxes, rather than counting them) or foul us. Even at 65.1% from the free throw line, that averages out to 1.32 points per possession...
By that, playing defense works better, and I think Homer would simply take Buggs out if they started fouling him.

You are correct about Homer taking Erik off the floor if he is fouled too frequently--and we've already had a couple of games this season when Erik and Jay have played tag, alternating their presence in the game depending on whether we were on defense or offense. (Not to mention the fact that by the end of the game, Erik has sometimes fouled out himself anyway <smile> )

(Not to mention the fact that by the end of the game, Erik has sometimes fouled out himself anyway <smile> ) Good point. One wonders who would foul out first Erik or the guy defending him. If you're smart you foul Buggs after he has a chance to make a turnover but before he penetrates and makes a good pass. The opponent who studies the games on HLN will know Buggs doesn't shoot.

The opponent who studies the games on HLN will know Buggs doesn't shoot. Nor should he. However he's no Tommy Kurth or Jake Diebler either. He'll at least look to score if the opportunity presents itself.
