If both Valparaiso and Cleveland State both win out at this point (the key both of you beating Wright State) my understand would be this... You both beat each other (still a tie), you both would have beaten Wright State twice (still a tie), now it comes down to us (Butler/ and here is where we possibly did you a HUGE favor today!)... you (Valpo) split with us, but we beat Cleveland State twice)...you would be the number one seed and host for the tournament. Lots of basketball left to play, but you would have to win out the rest of the season. Good Luck!!

I'm guessing Gary Waters will be complaining about the whistles this game. And the free throw line strikes again... the best defense for any team is that line 10 feet away from the rim. AH....it's 15 feet

Painful as it was to have to root for Butler, I'm glad they got the win. What happens if CSU and us both win out? How does the tie breaker work for the two of us? at present we have the tie-breaker because they lost to Butler twice and we beat them twice. The only caveat at this point is Wright State. if we lose to them and CSU beats them that could be a problem and Milwaukee is lurking back there....but at the moment it's ours

Valpo and CSU both beat the Panthers the first time around, but if either gets upset in the second matchup and Milwaukee ends up finishing ahead of Butler, they could end up being the tie-breaker instead.

what is it with ESPN announcers... 345 Division 1 schools, and there is only one school they can't pronounce correctly... That guy doing the game was struggling all day with the play by play and our name... I hope he gets to do the Buster game... so he can learn to do it correctly! thank you... I needed to get that off my chest.

I haven't had a chance to chime in on this until now. Butler showed today that they are still a team to be reckoned with. They're schizophrenic to be sure but if "good Butler" shows up for the HL tournament like they showed up today, they will be a very tough out, regardless of their seed.

I needed to get that off my chest. He was bored. I sincerely hope he does NOT get to do the Buster game. I'm thinking they were at the bottom of the ESPN depth chart. We better get a pbp team that is tons better and that's actually interested in doing the game instead of just going through the motions.

The announcer on the Cleveland State - Butler game sounded like a cross between Pat Summerall, Orion Samuelson, and Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

All I know is I watched that game, and while Kara Lawson probably knows more about basketabll than I do, she certainly doesn't know defense, or at least mens defense. I keep hearing comments about how good the defense for Butler was, when in truth they missied quite a few assignments and switches. They got bailed out by Andrew Smith's athleticism. This is not the same Butler team defensive as they were a year ago.

You can e-mail your complaints to ESPN TV, as I did before concerning a problem I saw in a broadcast. The responded within a day and the problem has not occurred again. I totally agree, this broadcast crew were really really bad. I don't know where I compare in most fans minds, but I really hope I am better than that. That was embarassing....

Charlie Neal sounded like he didn't want to say Valpa"RAIS"o, or work a mid-major game? I don't know what his deal was, but whatever, he's not good, and thank God for the 'mute' button on the tv.

The problem with yesterday's broadcast from a professional standpoint was that you had a tandem that was unfamiliar with the league ... and possibly only aware of one team. I had this same conversation with David Kaplan before the Milwaukee-Detroit game about getting him on the championship telecast instead of Dickey Simpkins. He responded that you've got to have someone who knows the league to pull off a successful program. Of course, David and Jim Barbar were occupied with the Milwaukee-Green Bay telecast on ESPNU and did a splendid job as usual. Here's hoping that they get the H League tournament games on the Family of Networks and Charlie and Kara, well, don't. Go, Pack, go!

He's knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and well-spoken. I don't know who it is, specifically, that assigns the broadcast teams for ESPN games, but I would much rather have two guys who are passionate about mid-major basketball, and make the viewer want to watch the game, rather than some of the guys who get mid-major games just because they live about an hour or so away from the game location, or in that region. Kara Lawson should stick to the women's game. It's what she knows best. She isn't like Doris Burke or Pam Ward, who can provide play-by-play or color for a game, like they've been a student of it for a long time. She's just like a Ron Franklin or Dick Vitale, only wants to focus on one aspect of the game, or one conference.
