It would be appropriate to invite president-elect Obama to the game for the following reasons: 1.He is a sports enthusiast and a basketball fan. 2.The game is being played by colleges from two recently converted red states, now blue. And,the nations #1 team will be playing. 3. The game is being played in his own backyard. 4.The game commemorates the 150 anniversary of a nearby university, and many constituants from Chicago and NWI will be in attendance. President Heckler & ML should extend the invitation supported by alumnus Dick Luger and others. Why not? Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Right?

I never thought I'd say this, but jj, that is an excellent idea!

I never thought I'd say this, but jj, that is an excellent idea! Likewise, kid...the worst thing that can happen is that he says no or is otherwise unavailable. Coming from someone who voted for McCain, I do this this would be a teriffic idea... Despite my vote otherwise, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Obama and I feel this would, in fact, be a wonderful thing if he chose to attend.

It's also not unprecedented. The White Sox have already extended an invitation to him to throw out the first pitch for the home opener next year. I realize that is also hardly unprecedented, but nonetheless ...

As one who voted for Obama, I thought McCain's concession speech was extraordinary. I don't think I've ever heard a better one, and I'm always amazed at how well losing candidates do with this unwelcome task.

President Heckler & ML should extend the invitation supported by alumnus Dick Luger and others. Where did you get the idea that Dick Lugar was a Valpo alumnus? DICK LUGAR--Lugar was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Bertha Green and Marvin Lugar.[1] He attended the public schools of Indianapolis. He graduated from Shortridge High School in 1950 and Phi Beta Kappa from Denison University (OHIO) in 1954, where he became a member of Beta Theta Pi. He went on to attend Pembroke College, Oxford, England, as a Rhodes Scholar, and received a graduate degree in 1956.

Past history would suggest that Reverend Wright is not opposed to being involved with VU. www.valpo.edu/news/news.php?releaseId=683 However considering what happened over the summer I think Reverend Wright's appearance would probably guarantee a no-show from the President-Elect.

An interesting question. Obviously during the election he was eventually convinced that it was safer to stay away from his old pastor (mentor?). But does that continue? With the next election in mind? As the link mentions, Wright has some history with Valpo. I was at his '99 MLK Day convocation. It was great to have Trinity UCC join us.
