typhoon, you amaze me! I saw this picture in Dr. Baepler's history of VU. Somehow you found it, scaned it or whatever and somehow circled Merlin in RED! Now, I must sound like an old geezer to be impressed with such stuff and truth be known, I AM!!
Thanks for all the photos. I think it helps all of us appreciate how great the campus is and, as jj has said, brings back some fond memories!!

I enjoy taking them. :thumbsup Here's a photo of a building you won't be seeing much longer. The addition on the back of Heritage Hall will soon be torn down to make room for a new, much nicer addition to the building. Details on the project can be found on another thread about the Heritage Hall expansion. I'm still experimenting with night photos, and I have a lot of work to do.

Here's a closeup of the white building pictured above. Also, the theme for the photos during the next few days or so will be "old campus."

This is the sign on the outside of the former mail center at Heritage Hall. During my freshman year (2006) when my parents still lived in Japan, I had to come here to send them a package since the bookstore couldn't send it. This visit was my first to old campus, and it wouldn't be my last.

In my tenure we had to go there to get certain Fed Ex packages and the like.

about a block north of Heritage is a vacant lot (on the corner) where DeMotte Hall use to be. DeMotte, at the time was home to the business school.
Well, I lived in Werenberg my freshman year and had to go to class at DeMotte on a regular basis. Actually, we had a class further west! Some walk on a rainy or snowy day!

It's been a few days since I posted a photo, but I went on a photoshoot this evening so I should be posting regularly again. There's really no theme to this set.

Sorry it's been a while since I posted last. Since the former Phi Delta Theta house off of Mound Street is slated for demolition in the next week or two, I did a photoshoot of it yesterday. The upcoming photos will feature it. Here's a view of some of the second and third story windows.

Oh yes, the Phi Delts. In years past, and for many years before, the Phi Delts always held themselves out as sort of being above the fray. You know, the athletes and scholars, not the mere students of the campus.
No doubt, many feel a sense of satisfaction seeing their fraternity in shambles. As a Phi Psi, who were always in competition with the Phi Delts, and who had as many athletes as they did, I feel badly that they fell into ruin. Hopefully they will rebound as we Phi Psis did after we were "kicked" off campus in the late 70's. To my knowledge, the Phi Psis are now one of the top houses and hopefully the Phi Deltas will return to their former selves.
One funny story just for old times. Back in the 60's, 70's and beyond, frats held what they called "smokers" where those interested in pledging would come, have a cigarette or two and visit with the actives. This didn't sit well with the Phi Delts, who thought they were "clean livers" even in the days when smoking was a very common thing.
So, Phi Delts didn't have "smokers", they had "ham and cheesers"! They had ham and cheese sandwitches for the future pledges.
One day, one of my brothers at the Phi Psi house decided this was an arrogant practice so he snuck into the Phi Delt house just before the pledge event, and stole the ham. As a result, the Phi Delts didn't have a "ham and cheeser" they just had a "cheeser", which we felt was appropriate, given our opinion of them!
