Welcome back TD and thanks for the memories. Saw myself in the Theta Chi picture in the 1953 yearbook. My wife is also pictured in the Gamma Phi group. There wasn't much racial diversity on campus in those years, but things have gotten better. Go Valpo! Well....since you mentioned 1953, jj, take a look at page 27. It's hard sometimes to remember when my dad had blond hair instead of gray. Since you were in Theta Chi you obviously remember my dad's cousin, Bob. Bob was the assistant athletic director at UNLV when Tarkanian was there. He later was the athletic director at California Lutheran in Thousand Oaks. His greatest thrill was getting to see the Dallas Cowboys training camps every year in Thousand Oaks. The Cowboys used the T.O. city fields for training camp but a lot of their equipment was kept on the Cal Lutheran campus under the watchful eye of one, Robert D. Cousin Bob applied for the Valpo A.D job when Bill Steinbrecher was hired. President Schnabel and Dick Koenig must have felt Bill was a little more qualified than Bob. Valpo was going or had gone Div.1 and Cal Lutheran was small time Div.III.

Has 807 Mound, most recently known as The Fellowship House (2003- )been recalled as 807 Mound or given a new name? I know this house was intended as a fellowship of faith community for any member of campus who wanted a house with an intentional/communal living purpose, but I haven't been kept up on what has happened with this program since the first year. Right now the official name is "807 Mound Street" since the fellowship of faith community lost support. But supposedly, the support for the Fellowship House depends on the class, and it is expected to return to a faith-based living community soon. the "fellowship house" christian community is coming back this fall, but they will be in guild/memorial, and not at 807 mound street. while it was at 807, students there were given the option of whether or not they wanted to join the community.

I didn't see anyone named "JJ" in the 1953 Theta Chi photo. What row are you in JJ? Who are you next to?

'89: jj stands for "jersey joe",my pen name. Like my politics,I'm standing left of center. Has football practice begun? We need a winning season, real bad.

I believe football players report for practice at VU next Monday. Today is the start of high school football practice (and all the other fall sports except girls golf) in Indiana. In Valpo, I think average fans look forward more to the high school team than the Crusaders.

Another small project, but the courtyard in the center of the Guild/Memorial residence halls has finally been renovated. It looks really nice now! Forgive the quality of the photo....I had to use my cell phone.

I lived in Memorial my junior year in a room overlooking the courtyard. By no means did it look bad back then, but it looks fantastic now! They really did a great job with the new landscaping. Now if they would only do something similar with the eyesore area between the Chapel and Union... (arguably the ugliest and most traveled part of campus)

Whereabouts was Dodge Hall located near campus, because I can't remember if I ever saw this apartment complex in my five years in college?
