Well we hung on to win. It started getting interesting there when we continued to miss FTs and turn the ball over down the stretch. Luckily the lead was a bit too much for Detroit to overcome and we hit just barely enough FTs to win. Can't keep splitting on the FTs down the stretch though, especially when they are 1 and 1s. Good win, now protect home court against the Wisconsin schools and January 29th will be a HUGE game!!!

Stat of the game was assists This was certainly a good win and winning back-to-back on the road in conference is always good. But frankly, Wright State was much better than Detroit. Total number of Detroit assists in the first half: 1 (1 more than they had in the first half against Butler on Friday). Detroit has physical talent, but their team play is awful. People rave about McCallum - but how effective is a point guard when he and the team have no assists. Detroit plays the style of an NBA team which only works in college if the talent is wildly better than the opponent. Only good coaching move Detroit made was pressing in the second half - and Valpo eventually beat that and made enough free throws.

Wow. If you'd have told me Butler was going to mangle two teams on the road right before we played them, and that we'd still win by the margins we did, I would've said "crazy". We had to deal with Cleveland State in the same way at home; right after Butler had crushed them at Hinkle.

I just got home from the Chicago Boat and RV Show. Talk about a frustrating day. Trying to catch a glimpse of my beloved Bears on a TV inside some display motor home, while at the same time dying to know how the Crusaders are doing. Now that I'm home and found out we won, I feel MUCH better! Go Crusaders!

Sounds like the frustration was entirely your fault.

Sounds like the frustration was entirely your fault. The family and I were in Chicago yesterday and were supposed to go last night. My daughter didn't feel well, so she and another very strong-willed female (my wife) decided we should stay at the hotel and go today instead. I consider myself a victim of circumstances. My nephew just called and told me I should immediately turn in my man card.

I, along with John Bowker, made the drive to Detroit for the game....and it was well worth it. First of all, Calihan Hall is an old time basketball arena...the kind I love. The fans are close to the floor and there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the place....two, we played a great game. Could have hit a few more free throws, but came up with great plays everytime needed. Thank heavans for Matt Kenney. Erik did a great job on McCallum, but with foul trouble it was Kenney who really stepped up. Woods was Woods, doing what he does, but sometimes someone has to step up who hasn't always, and today that was Matt. The only negative was the injury to Harris. Looked like a lower back problem, hopefully not too serious.....enjoy this weekend....it was a great double for the Crusaders

First of all, a few items to take care of: Memo to HLN pbp soloist: It's not news anymore that Valpo has an international flavor. What is news is that a lot of teams have an international flavor. Valpo has had this for decades now. Memo to Calihan Hall PA announcer: Feel free to crack open a media guide once in awhile. You might seriously be the last person on earth who still thinks it is pronounced Valpa-RYE-so. Finally, I sure hope the HLN webcast wasn't using the FSN camera feed, because that would make FSN Detroit look incredibly stupid. HOW HARD IS IT TO FOLLOW THE BALL, MR. CAMERAMAN? I counted at least a half dozen significant events in the game that happened completely off camera. HLN archive of the Butler game was much better than for the Valpo game (2nd half kinda choppy, and the first half kept resetting on me). Correction: Butler game resetting on me as well. Off-setting technicals - are Little and his UDM counterpart going to have to sit out a game (of course I can't form an opinion on that since that too happened completely off camera)? There were still a few sloppy stretches, but overall I'm just really impressed with Valpo right now. 9 guys who all are contributing. Let the MIke Rogers renaissance continue. We could maybe say that Detroit is still a little raw yet. I think BWood got the better of the coach's son in the first half. The one negative I noticed was (and I haven't checked the stats, but it's just my impression) poor free throw shooting. I'd still like to see that get much better. I did see Buggs hit a FT late. One last thing: GO BEARS!!!!! NEXT WEEK IS FOR ALL THE CHEESE.

One last thing: GO BEARS!!!!! NEXT WEEK IS FOR ALL THE CHEESE. The Bears don't want their STINKING cheese. They just want their coach's trophy (Lombardi that is)

This officiating crew blows. Brandon Wood gets hip checked and gets no call. If you're talking about the play I think you're talking about, my take is that the defender stood still, BWood was out of control (as was the whole team that possession - Buggs nearly lost the ball himself).

what happened that led to the technicals? i couldn't find it anywhere in the game report, and it wasn't mentioned on here aside from that they happened.
