The Times game day piece www.nwitimes.com/sports/basketball/college/article_e50f4d4c-6514-5da2-bc40-ef3e7a2ed16a.htmlsays I might hope there's some gamesmanship there. But, I guess Homer's not the type to bend the truth much. I don't know if the sports bookies are much affected by injury reports, for a team at our level. They didn't seem to be for the last couple of games. Currently they've got Butler by 2, 2.5, or 3 points. Computer predictions, certainly not affected by injury reports, have Valpo by one (Pomeroy) or four (realtimerpi). Damon, in his Victory Firelight piece made the slightly twisted observation that missing Wood wouldn't hurt us _too_ much, since Butler has been so successful containing him. (But who's to say Nored won't now be equally effective containing someone else?) I notice that I missed an earlier Times blog about the game: nwitimes.com/app/blog/sports/?p=4837

The game notes usually have this info www.valpoathletics.com/news/default/150/10432/"Following the Crusaders: Every game this season will be available on the Valpo Sports Radio Network, with Saturday's game broadcast live on WAKE (1500 AM, Valparaiso), WEFM (95.9 FM, Michigan City) and WJOB (1230 AM, Hammond). Todd Ickow is back for his 19th season on play-by-play, while Adam Amin will handle the color commentary Sunday. As the Horizon League Game of the Week, it will also be televised across the Horizon League markets, including locally on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, with Greg Rakestraw and Bob Lovell on the call. The live audio will also be available at www.valpoathletics.com, as well as live video through the Horizon League Network and live stats." Supposedly the HL "Game of the Week" is on in every HL market, and in a couple of other midwestern markets. You might have to check the HLN page to find the station in other markets.

I had a dream last night that the final score was Valpo 40, Butler 25. GO VALPO!

I don't want to sound like a debby downer, but losing Brandon (probably) is a lot bigger deal than just looking at his past game scoring totals. ---Brandon is one of a small group of "elite" players in the league that other teams have to game plan around. On numerous occasions Butler has run a second player at Brandon to keep him off stride. Having one less "special" player to try to stop is a huge advantage for any team. ---There is almost a 100% guarantee that we will not score as many points without Brandon. We will likely have longer dry spells, other players will get fewer open looks, and Butler will focus more on stopping our inside game. They will be all over Cory and we will get fewer easy back door opportunities. ---Lastly, does anyone believe that Butler would have any of their 3 conference losses if the opposing team's best player hadn't played?

I agree with all points above and as somebody pointed out, Nored will get to defend somebody else and take them out of their game. But, in my new glass half full attempt, Butler beat Valpo without Hayward, why can't Valpo beat Butler without BWood? Prediction - Butler 79 Valpo 71

Buggs is hurting his credibility for this game with 3 fouls in less than 7 mins. We just need some fight from everyone today. Wood can tough it out, but I won't be upset if he's unable to go, since he did show that he tried. Also, if anyone out there, not at the game is interested, I'm over in the chat room. Everyone is welcome, even those from the other conference schools.

We'll lose the rebounding battle in this game, if we don't attack the boards when we shoot, instead of running downcourt to get ready for Butler. I guess I can understand having one player downcourt already, but we need some more rebounders, otherwise we won't do anything more than lose rebounds that could have led to the layups or buckets we'll need later.

GAHHHH!!! Why are we tanking? The shooting seems rushed, and players who should be taking shots aren't. Ryan should be taking shots from all over, and he's passing them up. Buggs and Harris are trying to play some strong D, but they get called for fouls, and Harris is making mistakes that are fundamental. I don't know if we were just too pumped for this game, or we weren't sure what was going to happen with this game, but this is not good.
Our fans could also stand to give some more energy to this game. They all just seem to be sitting on their hands waiting for us to take the game over. We should be providing so much energy that the guys want to give so much more. Even the student sections are sitting on their hands. The big game of the conference season at home, and our fans are sitting on their hands waiting for the team to win it themselves. I don't see that happening without the fans becoming the sixth man.

Just frustrating on these shoulda woulda coulda games. We need a good first 5 minutes to tie this up and then it will be a gut it our rest of the game. Kenney should be more aggressive offensively as he looks to be at a different speed than anyone else today. We need the 2d scorer and a 3d with Wood being tentative (as expected on the injury). Harris three unforced turnovers were all frosh mistakes. All that said, down 5 and we haven't shot well from 3 and they have. Winnable but we need to play our game for 20 minutes. Defense was very solid first half.

Does anyone else feel that Homer should not take Broekoff out of the game until he's shot maybe 10 shots? I swear, every chance that kid has the shot, he passes off to someone else. I don't care if that's his role, we need some shooting. The momentum was going our way, then we pissed it back over to them, like the ship was tilting to the side, and we're all going to fall off.

Great to see Ryan taking shots, and HITTING THEM!! Matt is CLUTCH right now! We just need to keep this momentum in the final 4 minutes, I'm liking what I'm seeing from these guys right now.

I know it was a full timeout at 23.6 remaining, but why did it seem that the fans were sitting on their hands. Give this team some energy to feed off of!!
