I watched the 2nd half of the WSU/Butler game last night and noticed that besides Vaughn Duggins and N'Gai Evans that Cooper Land can get hot from behind the arc. I also noticed that WSU missed a lot of shots that barely rolled off the rim (as did Butler's Nored) but could have cost the Raiders the game. Valpo will need to really keep the defense tight against the 3 WSU scorers but especially if they drive for a lay-up Valpo must contest every shot. Troy Tabler is still out but the Raiders were dumping the ball to Mpondo quite a bit under the basket. This one is not going to be easy at all and Valpo will need the same effort against Wright State that they had against Detroit.

It will be interesting to see who controls the tempo of tonight's game. WSU plays at a snail's pace - 62 PPG - dead last in the HL - no one else is even close. The Crusaders average 69 PPG - 2nd behind Detroit. The encouraging thing as I see it is that we had only 60 possessions in the 1st WSU game (our 2nd lowest of the season) - and still won. That said, I'm sure we will be looking to push the ball. We have averaged > 70 possessions over the last 4 games. Getting points before opposing defenses are setup has definitely been a point of emphasis as of late.

The other things you need to consider about when looking at the Wright State-Butler game from Thursday is that Butler played REALLY well (even with Matt Howard out). For most of the game, their offense was clicking and well run and they played good team defense. My opinion is that Valpo needs to play a more consistent overall game against Wright State than they did against Detroit.

My opinion is that Valpo needs to play a more consistent overall game against Wright State than they did against Detroit. I think a key difference between Detroit and Wright State is that Holman was huge for Detroit in the paint and that really changed the game for Detroit offensively. Wright State doesn't have that presence that Holman brings and are more dependent on their guards (Evans and Duggins) and big man (Land) hitting shots and making lay-ups. If Valpo spends more defensive energy contesting every three point shot and denying the pass for a lay-up the Crusaders will prevail. Wright State really hustled well against Butler and brought a lot of energy to the game (WSU also brought 6 bus loads of fans) which Valpo will need to match with the student section and the energy they bring to the game.

Feeling lonely in the chat room Have I ever mentioned how much I *love* Matt Kenney* The first few minutes were bad, but for the most part, I'd say great defensive intensity from the team, and Kenney has shut down Duggins, which is no mean feat. I hope Jay Harris has gotten the jitters out of his system -- looks like it in the latter part of the half. Hope so. This game is going to go down to the wire, but if we keep playing like this, I have confidence we'll come out on top.

A simply amazing stat. Valpo hasn't missed a free throw and WSU has missed half or less of their free throws.

We need to step it up the last 5 minutes. I'm seeing the wheels falling off.

Broekhoff needs to make his presence felt in these last few minutes. That could be the difference in the game.

Swat a Bugg has finally bit the Crusaders.

I don't get why we put Buggs in for offensive purposes in a close game at the end...

Whew!!!!! Valpo was just lucky to win this game. If the Crusaders play like that at Milwaukee there is no way they win. Valpo by 2. 58-56.

Incredibly Free Throws made the difference in the game. Valpo made just enough and Wright St missed just enough.
