I would think the alums at Iowa State think it compares well to Iowa. How about Michigan State and Michigan? UCLA and California? Arizona State and Arizona? New Mexico State and New Mexico? Florida State and Florida? North Carolina State and North Carolina? Mississippi State and Mississippi? North Dakota State and North Dakota? OK, I'm done! Michigan State doesn't hold a candle to Michigan in terms of academic prowess. Not saying that Michigan State is by any means a substandard university, quite the contrary; it just isn't anywhere near the quality of Michigan. Michigan and Northwestern are definitely the cream of the crop, academically, in the Big Ten.

I was one of the supporters of University of Milwaukee when we voted on that... How can you think that about Wisconsin State? There's a lot of reasons it wouldn't work. For one, we'd be the second WSU in the conference. But more important is that WSU IS subservient to UW. Why? Sure, Ohio State>Ohio. But you're high if you think Penn State is a better school than Penn. Not to mention, look at all the other schools in our immediate area: Illinois State, Iowa State, Missouri State, Indiana State, Minnesota State. Are any of them thought of to be close to their University of ______ counterparts? To be fair, Milwaukee isn't anywhere close to the University of Wisconsin(-Madison). Who are you trying to kid? If any of the University of Wisconsin schools are anywhere close to Madison it would probably be La Crosse, not Milwaukee (academically speaking).

I liked all the ideas propsed last year or whenever it was, especially Milwaukee State and Wisconsin State. Too bad the initials don't work out.
I'm most concerned about Tone Boyle tomorrow. He's my pick to click. I'll be doing my best to send him bad voodoo from section 222.

I don't know if this has been reported elsewhere, but I realized this morning as I was closing in on all the scenarios for the #1 seed that a Valpo win tonight at the Cell eliminates Milwaukee from that competition. They would max out at 12 wins and at best tie with Valpo and lose the tiebreaker because we swept them. As for other 12 win teams muddying the water in their favor, CSU is neutral (both would split), WSU hurts them even more (we're 2-0, they're 1-1) and Butler doesn't help them enough (we'd be 3-1, they'd be 2-2, Butler 1-3). And 1st place will be at least 12-6 (my pick for our record around Christmas time) -- if everyone who currently has 11 wins stops winning, both Valpo and CSU have to lose to Milwaukee, vaulting them to 12 wins. So 11-7 for first place is impossible. Those are your teasers for today

Kyle Whelliston of midmajority.com has selected tonight's game as the Game!Of!The!Night! The write-up from the site:
When there are as many games left to play in the regular season as games necessary to win the tourney, you know that the hour is getting late. Last night, Butler's Matt Howard dunked on the last play of the game to lift the Bulldogs to a 64-62 win at Green Bay. They're tied for first -- in the win column, at least -- with just two games left. As fans of the league know, this is all quite important, because the team in first at the end gets to host the last two rounds of the lightning round. The rest of the conference will catch up the stagger shortly; Cleveland State has the potential of reassuming a half-game lead should they beat Wright State on the road tonight, but we're here to talk about the other megabattle atop the old MCC.
Valparaiso, a cute diversion six weeks ago, is hanging around. Like, the Horizon League final could be at the ARC hanging around. The Crusaders' only home league loss was a 63-61 squeeker against Green Bay on January 23, but they've beaten all the other top teams there. They're pretty good on the road, too: other than wide losses at Cleveland State and Butler, they've taken care of business. And that business is playing lockdown halfcourt defense and making a ton of mid-range jumpers. There's nothing particularly imposing about Valpo -- they're not the world's tallest team, and their rotation tops out at 6-foot-7, but they do lead the league in two-point field goal percentage at 53.8 percent. They need those shots to fall, because they're not going to get second chances very often. They're seventh in the 10-team collective in rebound percentage; they get about half of availables.
Milwaukee, < AHREF=http://www.midmajority.com/p/1860>an annoying wrench in an impossible math problem six weeks ago, is the Horizon League's hottest team. The Panthers have won six in a row, a streak that started at Hinkle Fieldhouse on January 23 with an 86-80 win over Butler (that was, incidentally, the last time Butler's lost). Despite the flat non-conference record and slow January, Rob Jeter's team is playing physical but smart lately, winning the boards but not sending teams to the line. This is also Senior Night for UWM's primary axis of Anthony Hill (14.8 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and Tone Boyle (12.5 ppg). In our experience, we've found that teams tend to expend additional effort to secure wins on any evening when framed jerseys are involved. But with a victory tonight and an Ohio road sweep to complete the season, there's an outside-outside shot that 13-5 could win this league and send the tourney to Milwaukee... we're not so late that dreams like that aren't still possible.

What he's forgetting is we'd have to lose twice for that to happen...and I don't think we will....I said 14-4 all along, and still believe we'll be no worse than that. This is a huge game, but Milwaukee still has to go to Cleveland State, and CSU very seldom loses there...We're still in good position, even if we did lose tonight, but I don't think that's going to happen....I pick VU by 5

They lost at YSU two weeks ago.

Michigan and Northwestern are definitely the cream of the crop, academically, in the Big Ten. Huh. What about Illinois? I would have thought they'd be in the conversation. Maybe not Wisconsin? Maybe I've lost touch with my midwestern public schools... What's USNews say? Northwestern #12. Huh. Berkeley #22. Virginia #25. (not B10, I know). Michigan #29. UNC #30. William and Mary #31. (Skipping a bunch of publics now). Wisconsin #45. Illinois #47. .... Purdue #56. Minnesota #64. Indiana #75. (Baylor #79) Michigan State #79.

It's been stated before but defense is going to win this game. Milwaukee is going to score more than 43 (because I don't really see them shooting 28% again) but I think Valpo is going to score more than 60. Especially since Wood and Rowdy are going to play.

I know it affects the ability to watch the game for some of you, but I'll be over in the chat room during this game. I'm not sure if stl will be, but it wouldn't surprise me if he isn't there too. It can be a good time, and yes we do focus on the game quite a bit.

Quick stop and pop three by Michael Rogers pulls us back to 26-29. Quickest release I have seen from him this year. Impressive.

Great shooting from Broekhoff and a great way to end the half. I can feel this one will come down to the last minute but I just feel that Valpo will pull it out. Also nice half from Rogers with his 6 points. Cut down on the turnovers in the 2nd half.
