I also like Schulman. Too bad for him hat he has to endure Dookie V. This would be a fun game: keep track of the amount of times he does mention Duke! For a mid-major contest, I'd hope it'd be pretty low. For younger members of the board....MO. State is actually an old foe of Valpo from the 80s when they were Southwest Missouri State and they hosted our "AMCU-8" conference tourneys down in Springfield, MO in their nice gym. Lot of history before some members of this board, myself included, might have been born. I did some research, and the first meeting between Valpo and Southwest Missouri State, as they were known, came in the 1967 Division II National Quarterfinals, and the Crusaders lost 86-72. Also, in 17 career contests, MO. ST. is 14-3, but all match-ups took place more than 20 years ago, so it's just a fun fact at this point. No real bearing on this year's game, which should be enjoyable. I forgot that game was against SW MO State. Valpo's coach was Gene Bartow who later coached at UCLA, UAB and Memphis (State). His son, Murry, was also coach at UAB before Mike Davis. Bruce Lindner was the star player on that Valpo team.

OK, trying to figure this one out. Some folks are saying it's Dickie V's RETURN to the ARC. He coached Rutgers 71-72 (we didn't play Scarlet Knights) and he Coached Detroit 73-77, and we didn't play the Titans during this stretch (those would have been in Hilltop, since the ARC didn't open until 1984)... and I don't recall him broadcasting a game from either place since he started his ESPN career in 1979.... so does anyone remember him ever being in the 46383 zip code?

I doubt they'd bring Shulman (who is, bar none, the best announcer ESPN has on multiple sports) since he's usually on the primetime game on ESPN. Today, Vitale is doing the Wisconsin/OSU game with Dave O'Brien on ESPN so O'Brien (who works MLB, college BB, and the Red Sox on radio) could be a possibility. Or Mike Patrick who's done plenty of games with Vitale.

The timing and strength of the match-up (late afternoon between mid-majors) does hurt the chances that Shulman is play-by-play, but for those same reasons, I don't think Patrick will come. It seems like most of his games with Vitale are ACC games (aka DUKE, BABY). So given these 3 names (Shulman, Patrick, O'Brien), I'd rate likelihood O'Brien, then Shulman, and then Patrick. I still have decent hope that it could be Shulman since he and Vitale seem to work with each other most often, but O'Brien would still be a good pick. If you're curious about the basis for some of my thoughts, here's a link to this year's broadcast pairings: www.espnmediazone3.com/us/2010/11/03/espn-men%E2%80%99s-college-basketball-commentators-2/PS: Just saw Dickie V conducting the Badger pep band on ESPN. lol.

So does this mean Erin Andrews is going to be at the ARC as well?

So does this mean Erin Andrews is going to be at the ARC as well? Was wondering if someone would make a connection to her... I'd really doubt it. It would still be fun to see how people would react to her, shall we say, "attractive presence"

She'll follow wherever the prime-time game is as well, so wherever CG goes, EA goes.

From the men's basketball update today on the Valpo athletics website, which looks at the Valpo match-up vs. Milwaukee, for those who were wondering who would be working the game along with Dick Vitale...I noticed under the Bracketbuster Matchup section that Dave O'Brien will be calling the game along with Dickie V. BracketBuster Matchup: The Crusaders learned late last month that they had earned another national TV appearance as part of the Sears BracketBusters event, as Valpo will host Missouri State live on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19. This marks the second time the Crusaders have made a national TV appearance for the BracketBusters game, joining the 2007-2008 squad which hosted Miami (Ohio) on ESPN Classic. On the call of Saturday’s game will be Dave O’Brien (PBP) and Dick Vitale (color commentary).

Hope the Mascot gets lost on way to ARC. It would be embarrassing if that thing was shown on TV.

I saw that disgrace dancing at half court while streaming the game Saturday night ... made me want to close my laptop before anyone else in the room saw the atrocity. That god-awful thing is no less embarassing every time I'm confronted with it. I'm still stunned and amazed that Valpo could screw up that badly.

Speaking of that monstrosity, it would be fantastic if one of the students dressed in the Bender costume from Futurama and painted Valpo on it's chest. Too funny...

Personally, I like the new more dignified Crusader MUCH more than the former cartoon-ish one, and certainly more than all the silly looking animals and other mascots that prevail today. But really, aren't they meant as comic relief?

But really, aren't they meant as comic relief? No. They're meant to inspire school spirit and provide a proud visual representation of university athletics. If they were only for comic relief, you could just put a guy in a cheap clown costume and run him out there. (Which, I guess, is essentially what they did.)

Further on the mascot....
The orange thing on the mascot's head looks like a giant Cheetoh
