1. Coach Adams has had more than enough time to prove himself. We agree on this, he's had plenty of time to show improvement. His team is currently 1-8, not what I would call improvement. Ok, I'm listening. What is your suggestion on how to bring the needed changes? Sorry, I ask you first. Show me a negative comment about the football program that doesn't include something about the coach. Again, we agree. Unfortunately, faith has been lost in the old face. A new face is the first step to rebuilding, bringing the spark back to a struggling program. You might want to go back and re-read what I said. I never compared Valpo to any area. I simply ask a question: What is there for an 18 yr old to do in Indy that they can't find within 20 minutes of Valpo? I never got an answer to that question. Sounds like you and I are on the same page, we just have different views on how to turn to the next page. I admit, I'm an aggressive style person. As a business owner, I'm impatient with those that don't pull their weight. Coach has had 5 years to put a productive system in place, the AD has been more than patient.

As for FB coaching candidates, VU might want to look at it's current coaching staff. I doubt he would want to leave the softball program, but Coach Schneider played and coached football at Wartburg before coming to Valpo. If memory serves me right, he was also an All-American linebacker in his playing days at Wartburg.

They came close, at least, in the other thread. " Students at Butler are 15 minutes away from great restaurants, malls, sports venues and concert venues. Not to mention the fact that Broadripple is just 5 minutes away. " I actually think that Valpo has a terrific set of restaurants, especially for a town its size. Now, many of the better ones (Dish, Bistro 157, Don Quijote, Billy Jack's come to mind) might be outside the usual student budget, but... I guess Southlake's just a typical mall - nothing too special. I wouldn't think Chicago would be _so_ far to go for major market sporting events or big name concerts. But, I can imagine the walking-distance, low budget, music scene in Indy might offer a wider range than Front Porch. There's the Star Plaza, which has a certain number of big acts, but a limited variety. I don't know much about Broad Ripple, but, yes, I can imagine Indy also offers a much larger variety of drinking establishments than Valpo. (Pass Times isn't so bad...) So, sure. Indy might well offer more variety. But, Valpo has it's charms.

If you throw out the over-21 activities, Indy ain't that much different than anything you're going to find in Valpo/Merrillville. Indy does have an edge in the sports related activities - Pacers, Colts, Indians, Fever, along with hundreds of other high school and college games.

While I am sure there are outstanding coaches on the staff, I don't think anybody from this group can be retained. It's not so much about the coaches themselves as changing the culture. Unfortunately I don't think that can be done with a current staff member.

I don't know much about Broad Ripple, but, yes, I can imagine Indy also offers a much larger variety of drinking establishments than Valpo. (Pass Times isn't so bad...) Actually Jared Fogel from the Subway commercials lives in Broad Ripple. George Hill's mom (mother of Spurs guard) :-) is a BR resident. Park Tudor School K-12 is also in Broad Ripple along with public school BRHS, of course. discoverbroadripplevillage.com/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broad_Ripple_Village,_Indianapolis David Letterman grew up in Broad Ripple with his quirky mom. Kurt Vonnegut spent a lot of time in BR. The name comes from the fact that the White River makes a large ripple up and down(think squiggly line) in the neighborhood before heading down to the west of Butler University before heading through downtown.

While I am sure coach Schneider would do a wonderful job. We want him as the softball coach.

the football team would become experts at stealing signs if that happened, and that would be a huge advantage

Wittenberg,Wabash,DePauw and Johns Hopkins are all in the D3 football playoffs. Would one of these coaches be interested in the Valpo job if it became available? Or,would one of the local, successful high school coaches be interested. This would sure help our local recruiting. After all, look at the job Gerry Faust did when he left Moeller to become coach at ND. Right Rick?

After all, look at the job Gerry Faust did when he left Moeller to become coach at ND. Right Rick? Now, really...comparing Gerry Foust leaving Cincy Moeller to coach ND vs. leaving almost any 5A high school to coach Valpo isn't even in the same catagory. Heck, some might not consider it a promotion depending on where they coach. Do you really think the Carmel HS coach would consider the job an upgrade? As for DePauw, Wabash, ect...Are we sure it's a step up to coach at Valpo? I doubt it. The problem will be getting a good candidate to come coach here. What exactly does the program offer? How can they further their career, and how likely is it they fail given the extremely limited resources. This is going to be a tough job to find a new coach, but that is going with the assumption that Adams is gone.

Wittenberg,Wabash,DePauw and Johns Hopkins are all in the D3 football playoffs. Would one of these coaches be interested in the Valpo job if it became available? You're on the right track. Drake hired Chris Creighton two years ago from Wabash (his religious fundamentalism would seem to make him a better fit at Valpo, but that's another story). Ignoring the interim coach Drake had in 2007, Creighton's predecessor was Rob Ash. Hired from Juniata, Ash became Drake football's all-time wins leader. Butler's Jeff Voris came from Carroll College in Wisconsin. And the list goes on.
